Anthony DeVille Obituary

Anthony P. DeVille, Sr. passed away on March 31, 2018 in Rescue, CA at the age of 83. Tony is survived by his wife, Linda, of 52 years; sons, Tony Jr. (Shari), Greg (Theresa), and Jon (Becky); sister, Elmira; and cousins, John and Jerry Gobert, Rita Ramos, Helen Pellerin, Lu Fontenot, and Mike and Derek Rideau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy DeVille and Anna Gobert; brothers, James and Raymond DeVille; uncle, John Gobert; and nephew, Murray Rideau. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Marissa, Dayton, Gregory, Emily, Nate, Alaina, Mason, Henri, and Andre. Tony was born in Lake Charles, LA on August 16, 1934. After attending two years at W.O. Boston High School, he left Louisiana and moved to San Francisco to live with his aunt and uncle, John and Audrey Gobert. Tony graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served in combat in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Tony began his college education earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from San Francisco State University in 1962, and a Master's Degree in Education from California State University, Hayward in 1966. During that time, Tony earned a Lifetime California General Education Credential. Tony began his career in education in 1962 when he accepted a teaching position at Chadbourne School in Millbrae, CA. After eight years, he accepted his first administrative position when he became principal at Lomita Park School in the Millbrae School District. In 1975, Tony accepted the principal position at Jackson Elementary School in the Rescue Union School District and moved his family to El Dorado County. Tony served the district for twenty-six years and was principal of Lake Forest Elementary, Marina Village Middle, and Rescue Schools before retiring in 2001. In his retirement, Tony continued to substitute in the district up until the time of his death. Tony had many passions. He loved the Cleveland Indians, San Francisco 49ers, playing the lottery, and testing his luck at Red Hawk Casino. His greatest passion, however, was education and serving the teachers, staff, and students with whom he came in contact over his long and distinguished career. A Celebration of Tony's Life will be held Saturday, April 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Rolling Hills Christian Church, 800 White Rock Road, El Dorado Hills.

Mr Deville was my principal at Jackson Elementary in the early 80s. I have wonderful memories of him and my children were lucky enough to know him. When my children entered school at Lakeforest I ran into him, he remembered my family. That meant a lot to me. Much love and prayers to his family!

There are no words that can adequately capture the magnitude of your loss and the loss to the community as a whole. He is a good man, who has left a great legacy that has and will continue to impact the lives of so many students. I hope Ms. Deville, Tony and the entire family find some measure of comfort in the memories he has left with you and know you are in our thoughts. With deepest sympathies, Jackie
