Dr. Byrne Robert Marshall M.D.

Byrne Marshall Obituary

MARSHALL, M.D., Byrne Robert

Died on 10-14-2005 at his home in Granite Bay after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on 11-13-1936, Byrne attended the University of Michigan for his under-graduate, graduate, medical school and OB/GYN residency. Byrne remained an enthusiastic Michigan Wolverine fan throughout his life.
He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Mather Air Force Base from 1967-69. In August 1969 Byrne joined Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento where he became Chief of the Residency program. He conducted research and published landmark articles related to obstetrics and gynecology. Active in the medical community, he is a past President of the Northern California Obstetrical Society.
In August 1979, Byrne joined Ben Berry, MD in private practice on Coyle Avenue in Carmichael. During his 14 years of private practice, he served as Chief of Obstetrics at both American River and Mercy San Juan Hospitals. Byrne was proud to have delivered well over 1000 babies during his years of practice.
Byrne, an avid runner, participated in many local Triathlons and 5K runs. He enjoyed being with his family, playing his guitar, dancing with his wife, and rafting the American River with his family.
Byrne is remembered as a warm and loving person who dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. His loving wife of 26 years, Connie Marshall, describes him as the perfect husband: sweet, funny and romantic. He is survived by his sons Brett and Darren Marshall, his daughters Melissa Borbe and Stacie Foster, his brother Barry Marshall and his nephews Keith and Kirk Marshall. He will be missed by his grandchildren Kayla, Britnee, Kourtnee, Tanner, Hannah, Rylee and Ali. Byrne is also survived by his sister-in-law Joan Dillon and her husband Bob, and his brother-in-law Graydon "Boomer" Schultz and his wife Barbara.
A memorial service and celebration of Byrne's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, 10-22-2005 at North Ridge Country Club in Fair Oaks, 7600 Madison Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to the Alzheimer's Association, 530 Bercut Drive Suite A, Sacramento, CA 95814 (www.alz.org).

Dr. Marshall delivered my niece as well as both of my daughters. I have never felt as comfortable with a doctor before or since being in his care. He was a class act and always made me feel like I was his only patient and that my babies were as important to him as if they were his own.

My thoughts are with the you all.

Dr. Marshall delivered my daughter when I was 42 years old. He was an angel on earth; magic. He was honest, compassionate, learned, funny, gentle. An angel on earth.

Dr. Marshall was very kind and gentle. He was with me during two difficult pregnancies, resulting in two beautiful children - a son in 1983 and a daughter in 1986, both born at Mercy San Juan Hospital. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

Dr. Marshall still holds a very special place in my heart -- he was not only the most kind and caring doctor that I've ever had, but one morning after he delivered a precious, healthy baby boy, he called me to arrange the adoption --and that's how I became a mother years ago. They both have been my greatest blessings in life!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all,

Dr. Marshall was a blessing. I was his patient before, during & after pregency, until he left Kaiser. He was never rushed, answered my many questions & truly cared. After a very long & difficult labor, I was so relieved to see him on rotation, during that final day of labor. He stayed with me for many hours, working his miracles & at last, guided my beautiful & healthy little girl into the world on 5/30/78. He touched so many lives & will truly be missed. Our thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends.
