David Coyle Obituary

Dave Coyle, age 76, died at his home in Sacramento, CA on October 3, 2025. A life-long resident of Sacramento, he had a deep connection to the City and Delta region. After graduating from Luther Burbank High School in 1967, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Air Force (1967-1971) which included one tour in Vietnam at Da Nang and Dong Ha-a strategically important U.S Marine Corps Base and critical supply hub for U.S. forces. A proud Veteran, Dave became a life member of VFW Post 67, the American Legion, and recently AMVETS Post-1. After Dave learned how to navigate the VA's complex bureaucracy, he then helped numerous other veterans access and obtain the benefits they earned and deserve.

He attended City College and the University of California, Sacramento, earning an AA degree. Dave worked for the Sacramento Bee while attending college. He went on to enjoy a long career with the California Department of Justice and retired as a Latent Print Analyst.

Dave possessed musical talent from his mother's side of the family. Dave and his mom, Barbara Adams Coyle, often performed together with Dave accompanying her vocals on guitar. He also played guitar in various bands around Sacramento. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #6, E Clampus Vitus, and Mummers of Sacramento. In 1991, Dave was selected Irishman of the Year. Dave was a loyal friend leaving behind lifelong high school buddies, band mates, and many others whom he met throughout his life's journey. An avid and enthusiastic sports fan, Dave enjoyed coaching softball, playing golf, betting on the ponies, and was a dedicated long-suffering Cubs fan. Dave will be remembered for his generosity, thoughtfulness and heart of gold.

Dave is survived by his partner Karen Olson, son Bernie Coyle (Vicki), daughter Erin Prosser (Ryan), sister Kathy Coyle Brown, grandchildren Jackson and Hailey Prosser, sister-in-law Terry Coyle; nieces and nephews: Kim Cafarella; Joshua, Daniel and Charles Coyle (Andrea); Antonio and Moises Saldana, and many other beloved family and friends. Dave will be deeply missed.

He was proceeded in death by parents Barbara Adams Coyle, Charles Coyle, Donald Parker, and brothers Donald and Richard Coyle.

A Memorial Gathering will be held November 8, 2025, 11:00 a.m. Elks Lodge #6, 6446 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation would be a nice remembrance. Dave's favorite nonprofits included animal rescue agencies (Sacramento SPCA), and The United Service Organizations (USO).
