Lodi, California - David Dart, co-owner and founder of d'Art Wines in Lodi, died of cancer on November 16, 2023, at 67.

Dave was born February 12, 1956, the youngest son of Marvin and Margaret Dart. He spent his early years in Elk Grove, California, where his family roots reach back five generations. Later, the family moved to South Sacramento, California, where Dave graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1974. As a youth, Dave earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. Dave attended Sacramento City College.

Dave's first career was in printing; he co-owned a successful printing company in Sacramento for many years.

Dave and his wife, Helen Rommel, moved to Elk Grove and became interested in winemaking. After four years of receiving top awards in the amateur winemaking world, Dave and Helen embarked on a new career and established their winery, d'Art Wines.

Dave and Helen found the perfect property in Lodi, California, with an established Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. d'Art Wines was born in 2004. The name of the winery was selected to represent Dave's family name and his creativity in winemaking and art. In addition to crafting the wine, Dave created the iconic labels that graced their bottles, using unique images from their travels.

Dave was proud to be an Eagle Scout, a printer, a husband, a father, a Mason, a winemaker, and an artist. He was creative, kind, passionate, funny, loving, and brave. Many friends and followers will miss him.

In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by his daughters Jessie Dart and Lisa Dart (Jessica), grandson Quentin, Brother Dennis (Julia), nephew Michael, and niece Katia.

He is now in a place of peace.
