HILL, Dennis Clarence
Dennis passed away January 12, 2013 in the loving care of the Hospice of the Foothills Compassionate Care Home in Grass Valley, CA. He was 83 years old.
Born in Lodi, California and raised in the little town of Courtland, down the Sacramento River. After graduating from Courtland High School he attended City College in Sacramento. Dennis joined the army at the start of the Korean War. He received a commission in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal in combat in Korea. Dennis gave over 20 years of service to the military and retired a Colonel.
He was a local business man here in Grass Valley for many years. In 1977 he was elected to the Grass Valley City Council and served as Mayor from 1981 to 1985. One of his accomplishments with his council members was to secure a Grant to remodel City Hall. Dennis received many awards from the City of Grass Valley, as well as the State of California.
He is survived by his loving family; wife, Bernice; son, Bill of Sacramento (Karen); son, Dennis of Sacramento; daughter, Kimberly Maltese of Grass Valley (Kevin); granddaughters, Jaclyn and Samantha Swartz, & Kristina Hill; grandsons, Zach Maltese, Justin Hill and A.J. Hill; two great-grandsons; loving sisters, Glenda Brownson of Michigan (Donald) and Patricia Emery of Washington (John); and many nieces and nephews.
To honor his wishes there will be no service. Private burial in the National cemetery in Dixon, CA. In memory of Dennis, family and relatives will honor his life at a luncheon on Saturday.
