Donald Krpan Obituary
Donald John Krpan, D.O. passed away on January 4, 2018 in Yorba Linda, California. Don was born on January 9, 1936 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the eldest son of Croatian immigrant John "Ivan" and Kathryn (Jerkovich) Krpan. He was the favorite brother to his one younger brother, Dan "Gege". His family relocated to California, first Long Beach and then Roseville, where he graduated from Roseville High School in 1956 and served as Student Body President. After high school Don attended University of San Francisco and Sac State where, in addition to his studies, he was on the collegiate boxing team. He graduated from the University of Nevada and the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine. Don married his high school sweet- heart, Martha Gay Brennan, of Loomis, in 1960. They spent time in Kansas City, Texas, and Phoenix before settling in Yorba Linda in 1976. Together, they built a successful medical practice, raised three children and became active members of the community. They later focused on the future of medical care and became founding members of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (Western Health Sciences) where Don later served as Dean and Provost. He remained actively committed to the education of future health care providers and continuously endeavored to promote the advancement of the osteopathic profession. He served as Executive Director of the Osteopathic Licensing Board for the State of California until his death. His professional accomplishments and accolades were innumerable and his impact immeasurable. Don loved golf, Notre Dame football, his Croatian heritage, politics, family reunions, winning at cards and meeting new friends. He especially enjoyed his tenure as President of the American Osteopathic Association (2000) a year during which he and Gay traveled throughout the United States witnessing first hand the advancement of the osteopathic medical profession.
