Gary Dunn Obituary

Gary passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 after a short but acute intestinal illness. Surrounded by his immediate family, at the Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Roseville, CA., he leaves behind his wife, Joan; his brother, Dennis; his children, Michael (Becky), Vicki, and Patti (Mike); his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sean, Ryan, MacKenzie, and Tynan; his nieces, Allison, Katie, and their five children; as well as his former wife and friend, Kathy. Gary, raised in the seaside community of Pacific Palisades, California, engaged musically, athletically and civically during his adolescence through his graduation from University High School. From "UNI" Gary began his freshman year at Claremont Men's College (now Claremont McKenna College) where he received his Bachelor's degree in 1959. With graduation and officer training behind him, Gary began a distinguished and award-laden twenty-year military career for the U.S. Army. Following his Army retirement, Gary began his second career in logistics and sales with Simmons USA, from which he retired after more than twenty-five years of service. Gary, in his last decade, continued his professional life beyond the normal retirement window. He energetically kept his family activities a continuing priority and maintained his communication and care for distant relatives and friends. He was a singular personality who carried his innate decency, goodwill, intelligence and a broad acceptance of our human diversity in all of his relations. A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, Gary will be long remembered and never forgotten for his warmth, humor and dedication to family and country. A "Celebration of Life" for Gary will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 3:30 PM at the Sierra Pines Communit Center in Roseville, CA.
