Hal was Past Master of Provident Lodge #609, affiliated with Nevada City Lodge #13, Wise Master of the Sacramento Scottish Rite, and member of the Shriner's Drum and Glocks. Hal started what became known as ''Hal's Gals'' where he and fellow members would escort the widows of members to special Provident Lodge functions and dinners. Hal was persuaded by Barbara one year to dress as Santa for Christmas at the school where she taught for many years. He loved it so much that for over a quarter of a century, he became ''Santa'' Hal for a couple of weeks every December to countless family, friends and organizations. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 1:30 pm at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 6151 H Street, Sacramento, CA, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sacramento Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders, 6151 H Street, Sacramento, CA 95819 would be appreciated.

My deepest condolences to your family. This wonderful gentleman and his kind & dedicated wife, Barbara, played such an important part in my son's life when we lived in the Greenhaven area of Sacramento and I will always be grateful for their wise guidance and concern during a very difficult time in our families life.
