Hugh Boyle Obituary

BOYLE, Hugh ''Hugo''
Sunday morning, just before the clock struck ten, the silver cord of life was loosened, the golden bowl was shattered and the soul of Hugo Boyle winged its way from its earthly to its heavenly home. He was born in Bronx, N.Y., on Nov. 13, 1930, and passed away in Sacramento on Jan. 18, 2009, after suffering a severe stroke a few days earlier. He was the son of Irish immigrants John Boyle and Margaret Tolan. His mother returned to Ireland for medical reasons when he was about a year old. She passed away when he was a young child and he was raised by his grandmother and two aunts. At age 23, Hugo received his draft notice and returned to New York where he enlisted in the USAF. He was trained as an aircraft mechanic, but spent a few years as a flight engineer on a C-130A Hercules. He received several military awards, including the Bronze Star in 1969 for meritorious service in Vietnam. He spent 20 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1973 while stationed at McClellan AFB in Sacramento. Hugo was preceded in death by longtime companion, Darlys. He will be missed by his many friends who will remember him as a kind gentleman and a faithful friend. A celebration of life will be held for his friends at the Pied Piper Lounge in Sacramento.
