James LeDOUX Obituary

LeDOUX, James Anthony
Passed away on May 1, 2010, after a lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and family. He is the best father ever. He is survived by devoted wife Grace Papale-LeDoux, and from his two previous marriages his son Stacy (April) LeDoux and daughters Katy (Tom) Kassian and Vickie Rae (Bobby) Hammer. Jim was born in Duluth, Minn., on May 24, 1938, to Paul and Margaret LeDoux. He moved with his family to Sacramento in 1943. Jim was in the auto industry for 38 years in sales, finance, and sales management. He retired in 1999. Jim was also very active in the Grant Union Alumni Association, as a docent at the Sacramento Railroad Museum, and ballroom dancing, for which he won 12 gold medals at the Senior Olympics. He was also active in scouting his entire life as an Eagle Scout and Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and as a scoutmaster in the Tenderfoot District. He also had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. Jim is survived by his brothers Thomas, Charles, and Jerome and his sister Gloria, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife Flavia Rea LeDoux, his parents, his sister Lorraine, and brother Bill. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Grant Alumni, or to the Boy Scouts of America. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the NORTH SACRAMENTO FUNERAL HOME, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento, Calif., and the funeral service on Thursday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento.

Dear Grace and Family,

I am writing on behalf of the Grant Union High School Alumni Association, board of directors and museum staff. Jim was a founding member and 2nd president. Over the years he continued to contribute his time and expertise to the Association. We will miss his occasional visits to the museum and seeing him at football games. We were so lucky to have his help and support!

In appreciation for his friendship and years of service, GUHSAA is awarding a $2,000 scholarship in Jim's memory at the Grant High graduation on June 2nd 2010.

A good friend will be missed

Thaden Michael

May 8, 2010

I am Lila Thaden's son, and know how special a person Jim was to my mom. It's difficult to know what kind of message she would want me to impart to his loved ones as I am still grieving my mother's passing; amazingly almost exactly two years ago to the day that Jim passed. Perhaps this is a tribute in itself, as I imagine the two of them are now somehow together enjoying their existence with the zest and good humor they only began to explore here in this world, now free of physical hindrances. Jim spoke of my mom as an inspiration in coping with cancer, and they shared the same oncologist. I suspect the two of them are enjoying music together now, just as they shared violin playing and dancing among many other quality times while they were with us in this mortal stage of life. Jim was kind enough to connect me up with an associate at a local Honda dealership to help me purchase my current vehicle in 2005, and was privileged to hear about some of his multiple careers, talents, and wealth of experiences. I appreciated his devotion to family, and realize how difficult it was for him to lose ones who he loved. I guess our sad feelings at separation are a fair price to pay for the privilege of finding others to love here. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Jim's family and loved ones.

Jim LeDoux is my uncle and my Father all into one. When I needed to talk He was always there for me, even at 3:00am. He taught me more than I could ever remember. I am proud to call you my Best Friend because you are and always will be. You will be missed and you will always be in my heart, I pray that I will be half the man you are ! Thank You Uncle Jim, Francis LeDoux.

Jim was a great friend and dedicated volunteer of the CSRM. Where as most docents focus on the needs to the patrons Jim always tried to make sure his fellow docents where taken care of too. We will be missed.

My condolences to Jim’s family and friends. Jim and I go back a long long way. He was a student of mine when I taught at Grant Union High 1957 -58. I remember him from there and then later knowing him through scouting. We were both Eagle Scouts. I remember visiting him at his district’s camp up on the coast one summer. Later my wife and I ran in to him at various reunions. He was a good student and a fine man man, and I remember him very fondly. Bruce Swinehart
