John Birkenstock Obituary
Age 64, died on February 7, 2002. He was born on February 8, 1937 and grew up in Redondo Beach, CA. In 1963, after completing his graduate studies he moved his family to Sacramento where he started to work for the State of California; for the last 15 years of his career he worked for the State Personnel Board. He is survived by his son, Martin and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Lewis, his son-in-law Paul Ansilla and his grandchildren Kirsten, Nicholas and Sonia, the children of his deceased daughter, Leslie. John is also survived by his two brothers, William and Harry Birkenstock. His love and affection are sorely missed by Nora, his wife of 44 years. John loved all outdoor activities and relished the trips to the Point Reyes Sea Shore during his year of retirement. A memorial service will be held on April 20, 2002, at 10:00, at the Northminster Presbyterian Church on 3235 Pope Ave. Remembrances may be made to the Death Penalty Focus or to the charity of your choice.

I'm sorry to hear of John's death. I went to Redondo Union High School and graduated with John in 1954. I remember him as a very quiet and kind person. May your many happy memories of John sustain you at this time.
