John DeKoning Obituary

John Vork DeKoning, resident of Granite Bay, passed away and started his eternal life with Christ on October 5, 2011 at the age of 81, surrounded by family and friends. John DeKoning is survived by his wife Joanna, sons Jim and John DeKoning, grandsons Jimmy Harrison, Casey and Burton DeKoning, granddaughters Tracy Harrison and Morgan Weaver, great granddaughter Lori Harrison, and great grandsons Andrew and Max Peacock. John was preceded in death by his daughters Lori and Linda DeKoning. John loved boating, water skiing, four-wheeling, jeep racing, camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. John also loved to build and started his construction business in 1961 with his son Johnny DeKoning becoming his partner in 1984. John was an icon in the construction field-a true craftsman as a carpenter and contractor. He was a father figure, mentor, and friend to those that worked with John over the span of his construction career. John DeKoning was a real man, a strong man; but most of all a generous and loving man. He will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to attend his graveside service held at Fair Oaks Cemetery (7780 Olive Street) on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at 12:30 PM at Johnny DeKoning's home (call 989-5755 for more information). In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Sutter Roseville VNA & Hospice (800-541-5045) or Cancer Research Institute (800-992-2623).

We have wonderful memories of the camping trips our families had together. I imagine you and Frank are fishing in Heaven if there are streams and rivers. All the pain and suffering is gone.

Remembering the great camping trips our families had together. Those were happy times. Who would have known that Frank would be joining you just 3 months later. If there´s fishing in heaven, I see two old fishermen, kicking back waiting for a bite.

Dear JoAnna and family: It's hard to believe a year has passed and with it so many changes. John may not be physically with you, but I know he is there spiritually and in your heart and memory. As the time passes, the deep sorrow changes to memories of good times, silly things that you shared and more and more you can think of him with smiles of the times that were good. Love you and think of you often. Carole

I have fond memories of John DeKoning and Grandpa John working on the construction of North Highlands Church of the Nazarene in the first half of the 1960s. As a young teen, he encouraged me to do thing on the church that I hand never done. Steve Buerer
