John Kai Obituary

In Honor Of KAI, John Akina
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend passed away on the morning of March 22, 2006. He was 87 years old. Mr. Kai, who was born in Hilo, Hawaii, had moved to the Sacramento area 5 years ago after residing in Fremont for over 39 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jeanne and his son, Ronald Viera. Fondly known as Johnny Kai, he retired from his upholstery business at the age of 85. Mr. Kai was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Kai was also past President of the Hui Kamaaina Club of the East Bay. Mr. Kai is survived by his children John Kai, Ralph Kai, Rebecca Kai, Joseph Viera and Joselle Guzman; his grandchildren, Clinton, Corey, Kelly, Peter, Sarah, Elijah, Noah, Hannah, Keoni, and Isaiah; his sister Myra; brother Richard; and 8 nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center, 8267 Deseret Ave, Fair Oaks, CA.

I had the opportunity to work with Brother Kai for three years and we became good friends. I was sorry to hear of his passing. He was a good man and it was nice to know him. Our condolences to his family.

Always a smile. Some of my early memories of John were his frequent interactions with my grandfather. He was a gentleman and made one heck of a restaurant booth. The Cullincini Family offers its condolences.
