Karl Gunther Obituary

GUNTHER, Jr., Karl F.

Born on May 22, 1964 in San Francisco, Karl F. Gunther, Jr. passed away on June 29, 2008 at the age of 44 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving and devoted husband to Karen and father to his sons Kyle, Kurtis and Kevin. He is also survived by his father Karl F. Gunther, Sr., mother Carolyn Gunther, sisters Lisa Thompson of Reno and Amalia Wade of Roseville, extended family and countless friends. After graduating from Chico State University, in 1986, he went on to pursue a successful and fulfilling career as a Certified Public Accountant. Of all the things he enjoyed doing, watching his three boys grow and thrive was what he treasured most. He volunteered his time as a Boy Scout leader, coach and at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was a devoted fan at his children's many sports activities, juggling multiple events on any given day. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and the Carmichael community in which he was actively involved. A service will be held on July 5 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Sacramento, followed by a celebration of his life at Glen Oaks Swim & Tennis Club at 5:00 p.m. - two places that are dear to the Gunther family. Remembrances may be made to the Myeloma Institute for Research & Therapy and the St. Mark's United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Aunt Kathy & Grandma Gunther

July 5, 2009

Morning to our Dear JR.
It's been a year ago today 7/5/2008 since your Celebration of Life Memorial. And as your Grandma & I sit here today in remembering our sad lost as since you were taken from all of us Far To Soon. You know that we have been missing you so much.
Just as your grandma & I were about to toast our first cup of morning coffee up to you. We were remembering how You' would kick off the morning with your own cup of coffee in hand trying to do the Moon Walk in your sleep shorts. You'sure cracked us up so much. But I think we were really laughing more at you still in your sleep shorts. However we were still so amazed just how well you could actually Moon Walk.
Well GUY, now with Michael Jackson having joined you. The two of you can slip & slide your Moon-Walk in entertaining all those with you. Maybe you can even talk your Grandpa G. into kicking up a leg & loosen up some.
Just a little note to mention: Karen has been doing one Fantastic job with the boys. I know you have to be so proud. AND I know your Spirit is with the boys in helping them in their daily studies & especially their sports. They are succeeding in hugh area's & winning awards. Your Grandma & I can'T even keep up with how much they have grown up into young men.
And WOW, there was a really nice surprize when the Family learned that one of the Baseball Field's was being Dedicated to You in Tribute. What a Fantastic Honor for the Boys & all of us.
I Sure wish your Grandma & I could have seen this Special occasion of such a Proud Moment. But Karen has been senting us some Great Photos with your name in "BIG RED PRINT". It's really something. And your Dad called your Grandma & I so we could hear your Dedication. What a Fantastic way the 11-12yr. olds came to Honoring your name. We have all been so touched with such special moments.
Loving & Missing you Guy,
Aunt Kathy & Grandma

Our Dear JR.,
It's been over 7mos. since you've been gone from us, & we still are not believing.
I keep trying to find ways to get through the day while your Grandma continues to keep herself busy around the house doing this & that oR going to the store.
Your Grandma's first thoughts are of you when she gets her 1st cup of coffee. She'll always say how she use to ask you how you toterated your coffee plain in having No sugar, & no Coffee. I think now your grandma tries to make up for your lack of sugar, so she doubles her dose. That's a Sweet Cup of Coffee.

Although I know you will always be in my daily thoughts & in our Hearts:
This little Poem tries to help me get by as I think of you:

This is called in "In My Pocket".

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
Missing you so much,
Hugs, Aunt Kathy & G Grandma

Karl, you will truly be missed by many. I never was able to give you that massage I owed you, however to be safe we needed the Doctor to give us the okay to do so, and I assume you were incredibly busy traveling to and from Arkansas to take time to receive one, so I am sorry for that. I will have to make it up to you on the other side when we meet again. Who knows, maybe our bodies or souls feel as if we have been given a massage on a regular basis in heaven! I sure can be hopeful that heaven feels that way!

On April 19th, 2008, unknown to you, I dedicated a luminaria bag in your honor at the Relay for Life held at Cooley School in Roseville. I am including a few pictures of it and the evening. It was amazing the hundreds of luminaria bags lit "in honor" or "in memory" of the people who were touched by Cancer in some form or another. Someday there will have to be a cure.. I'm just sorry in didn't occur in your lifetime. We will miss you.......Barry misses you terribly...
We will also miss your CPA guidance!

Karl's family - I just heard of Karl's passing and wanted to express my deepest sympathies for your loss. Karl and I went to San Carlos HS together and played football together. We had many a fun time running around San Carlos, and Karl was the one of us who seemed to have a better understanding of the "Big" picture of life at that tender age. I haven't seen him in years or even heard his name, but the fond memories are vivid. Hold on to your memories and keep him with you always. Very sorry for your loss.

I am one of the nurses at Sierra hematology office where Karl spent many hours getting treatment. I do not read the paper so one of the nurses told me he was what we say TWA(traveling with angels)now. I cried. They say we are not to get to close but if they knew Karl like I did they would know that was impossible. We tried so hard, but the Lord wanted him more I guess. My prayers go out to you Karen and your sons. I have picutes by the chemo room of team Gunther. I will always look at it and smile. Maureen Eldridge RN.
