Kathryn Owens Obituary

Kathryn Owens
December 17, 1949 - November 24, 2021
Sacramento , California - Kathryn "Kathie" Owens, née Cook died at home on November 24, 2021. She was surrounded by her family who supported her throughout her two year diagnosis of ALS.
Kathie, a native of Sacramento, was born in 1949 to Beatrice and Oliver Cook. She attended Sacred Heart elementary and St. Francis High school.
She was fascinated by the human heart and worked as a cardiac sonographer at Methodist Hospital, Sacramento Sierra Medical Group, and retired from Sutter Medical Group.
The youngest of seven sisters, she rarely came across an individual she didn't know, or couldn't quickly discern their six degrees of separation.
She was incredibly thoughtful and dedicated to maintaining her friendships, many of whom were established in childhood.
Kathie is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Peggy Cook and Jerry Sullivan. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Paul Owens, her daughters Andrea and Meghan and their spouses, Marco and Samuel. She is "Nan" to seven grandchildren, 22 loving nieces and nephews, and too many great nieces and nephews to mention.
If you met Kathie, you felt remembered and thought of. She likely sent you a note during a struggle or difficult time in your life. She was incredibly gifted at making people feel seen.
She loved to laugh, talk with girlfriends on the phone for hours each night, read, see movies and spend hours walking the neighborhoods of Sacramento.
"And yes, they're right…your life flashes before your eyes at the end."
She will be terribly missed.

I went to Sacred Heart and St. Francis with Kathie. Though we lost touch after graduation, I remember her as a warm, empathetic, intelligent and engaging, fun girl. As an only child, I was so drawn to her and her family! They all seemed just wonderful. Many condolences to her husband and children and all her family.
