PONTES, Lurdes
A long time resident of West Sacramento, Lurdes Pontes, 72, died on August 10, 2012, peacefully with her family by her side at her home in West Sacramento, California.
Lurdes is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jorge; daughter Evonne, grandchildren Brittney (Michael) and Kenny; daughter Mary Lou; son Michael (Linda) and granddaughter Josafina, and many, many close family and friends.
Lurdes was born on January 23, 1940, in Prazeres, Madeira, Portugal. She built her life with Jorge as she worked hard in the fields to help support her family. On April 18, 1966, they came to America with their two young daughters. She began her career of 37 years at Blue Diamond Growers. In 1970, they had their son.
Lurdes was a member of the Portuguese community and was involved in the Portuguese church, festas, and parades. She traveled to South Africa, Portugal, and Venezuela to visit her family. She enjoyed her cruises to Mexico and day trips to Sausalito, San Francisco, and Monterey. She loved shopping, watching soap operas, novelas, and playing cards.
The viewing will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, followed by the Rosary at 7:00PM, at George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, located at 2691 Riverside Boulevard, Sacramento. The funeral mass will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at 10:00AM at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, located at 1817 12th Street, Sacramento. The burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, located at 6700 21st Avenue, Sacramento, followed by a reception at St. Elizabeth's Reception Hall.

Lurdes may you rest in peace. To my lifelong girl friends and daughters to Lurdes and Jorge I am so sorry for your loss, I know the lord will stand by you, but I have to say that at this time I am still adjusting to the news that she has passed.
