Mark Whisler Obituary

February 19, 2017 Mark was born and grew up in San Bernardino in a family of teachers. After getting his BA at UC Berkeley in 1975 he settled in Sacramento and began an over 40 year career, becoming a leader in the financial and real estate businesses including the Whisler Financial Group and Whisler Land Company. But his real passion was Progressive political issues and candidates. Over the years he wrote four ballot arguments for or against California state propositions. He worked tirelessly for more than forty national, state, or local candidates. He let everyone know where he stood on candidates like Bernie Sanders; it was tough if you disagreed with him. Mark passed away in San Francisco unexpectedly from complications of pneumonia. Mark leaves behind his brother Kirk Whisler and sister-in-law Magdalena of Carlsbad, sisters Laura Whisler of Sacramento and Denise Whisler of San Bernardino, and nephews Spencer Whisler of Sacramento and Zeke Whisler of Carlsbad. Mark will be missed by many more friends, co-workers, and clients. His efforts impacted thousands. A Celebration of Mark's life will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 1pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, Goethe Hall, at 17th and L St., Sacramento, CA.

I didn't know when you recently reached out to me, it would be the last time we spoke.
I am glad it was a healing conversation. We have spent a ton of time together over the years and through it all, I was better because of you in my life. You time came too soon. Rest in peace.

Oh Mark! It is hard to imagine the world without you in it. You made such an impact on so many lives, including ours. I always looked forward to our long talks and your big ideas, that always had "making the world a better place," as their motivation. I hope you are dreaming and scheming somewhere in the universe, with that beautiful mind of yours.
