Matthew Henry Solis left us on Thursday, August 14, 2025 after a long and heroic battle against kidney disease and its related health challenges. Born in Sacramento, CA, on May 11, 1968, he was a lifelong resident of Sacramento and briefly in Turlock CA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Isabelle Solis; stepfather, Tom Rosier; and his brother, Richard Michael Solis. Matthew was employed for many years at Albertsons, Whole Foods and Costco. He enjoyed family time, playing softball, skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains, kayaking on the American River, and walks along the river with his dog, Moose, whom he loved and cared for deeply.
He brought joy to his entire family. He will be most remembered for his endless generosity, optimism, radiant smile, his loud but infectious laugh and, most especially, his devoted caregiving of his mother, Esther.
Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Isabelle Solis; stepfather, Tom Rosier; and his brother, Richard Michael Solis; his grandparents, Joseph and Francis Solis, and Henry and Amelia Serna; and by his uncles and aunts: Angelo, Peter, Henrietta, Georgia, Beatrice, and Larry Solis; Robert and Henry Serna; Sally Sandoval; and Raul and Pauline Ponce.
He will live on in the hearts of and is survived by his Father, Richard Clayton Solis; his siblings: Solis Christopher (Rob) Rough; Raquelle (John) Nelson; Peter (Gina) Solis; and sister-in-law Trudi Solis. His nieces and nephews include: Michael Solis and Hannah (Isaah) Solis-Willingham; Serena, Jake, and Benjamin Nelson; Sarah, Nichole, and Gabriel Solis; and his great-nephews, Adrian and Elijah Solis-Willingham. He is survived by uncles and aunts Joe, Lillian, Ramona, and Emily Solis, as well as a large circle of cousins.
He will rest in his favorite places and alongside his mother, Esther Solis, at Turlock Memorial Park. His Celebration of Remembrance will be a private memorial held at a later date. Attendees will be encouraged to wear their favorite sports attire and will be invited to share stories of remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Matthew's memory to the Sacramento Animal Shelter on Front Street to honor the love he had for his dogs Moose and Woody, and the other animals in his life.
