Patrick Preyer Obituary
Patrick Preyer
November 19, 1955 - January 26, 2023
Rancho Cordova, California - Patrick was born on November 19, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was one of two children born to the union of John Lee Preyer Sr., and Rosie Nell Preyer. Patrick united with the Catholic Church at an early age. During his formative years, he attended school at the Nazareth Catholic Mission, Montgomery, Alabama, and St. Adalbert and Benedictine in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1974, Patrick graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Richmond, CA.
Patrick was clear on his vocational calling in life. In September 1980, he enrolled in the Nursing School Program at California State University, Bakersfield (formerly California State College, Bakersfield). After only two years, Patrick passed the licensing exam in May 1982 and soon thereafter joined the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield, CA.
Because of Patrick's desire to excel in everything he set his mind to, he was able to work full time and continue his schooling. In May 1983, Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). After graduation, Patrick decided to relocate to Northern California.
He was committed to the quality care of every patient who entered the operating room. Every patient had a name. Patrick began his employment with Kaiser Permanente in 1976. After 38 years of dedicated service, Patrick retired as a Surgical Nurse from South Sacramento Kaiser in 2014. He was blessed to have touched the lives of many.
After graduating college, Patrick married Lorena Louise Ross in 1980. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Philip Wayne, DeAngelo Darrell, and Patrick "PJ" Houston. Lorena preceded Patrick in death in 1996. On August 18, 2001, Patrick married Ms. Carla Lynne Brown, a love like no other! One of their most treasured dates was ballroom dancing classes. Even though they never finished the classes, Patrick was more than pleased with the outcome.
Patrick was a man full of life, enjoying his family, friends, and animals. He filled the world with love and compassion. He loved deep-sea fishing with his sons. He loved Carla unconditionally. Many will never forget how he awakened early mornings, before his workday started, to accompany her to work at "o-dark thirty" to ensure she was going to be okay on the corner of Zinfandel and Alicante Way. Unbeknownst to many, Patrick would also take time to comfort the homeless. He often bought them coffee and met other needs to let the homeless community know they mattered.
Patrick will be forever remembered as a hardworking man, but he also took time to enjoy hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed football (49'er faithful!), smooth jazz, Silver Springs Men's backyard barbeque parties and travel. The Caribbean brought him a sense of pleasure and relaxation. One of his favorite travel destinations was Jamaica, with his bride!
