Obituary for Essence Sharie Preyer Essence Sharie Preyer, 33, of Stamford, passed away unexpectedly on September 13, 2025 in New Canaan. She was born on September 30, 1991 to Lucy McCoggle and Gregory Preyer. A graduate of Westhill High School, Class of 2009, Essence loved traveling, being creative, and surrounding herself with friends and laughter. She embraced life fully, whether enjoying a night out dancing or sharing quiet moments at home. Essence worked in customer service in Stamford, Greenwich, and Darien, delighting many with her stories, including a memorable encounter with Diana Ross. Most recently, she was a cherished member of the New Canaan Playhouse, where her kindness, joy, and selflessness touched colleagues, visitors, and local businesses alike. No matter what challenges came her way, Essence faced them with grace and resilience. She was known for her radiant spirit and an unwavering love for life. Her carefree, silly nature made her a delight to be around, and her warm, compassionate heart made strong and lasting friendships. Above all, Essence loved her children deeply and was a devoted mother. Her son, Christopher Bautista, and daughter, Emelia Preyer, were her greatest joy and accomplishment, and her love for them was evident in everything she did. Essence leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved children, her parents, her siblings, Jacqueline (Reginald) Samuel, Alexandria Roundtree, Ebony Preyer, Lauren Wright, and Gregory Preyer; three nieces, Níylah Veira, Keighlani Samuel, and Izelya Samuel; three nephews, Shaheim Samuel, Micah Samuel, and Andrè Gainer, Jr; and a host of family and friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. The viewing begins at 10:00AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Bishop Michael Densmore will officiate. Essence will be laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT. Essence's absence is felt deeply, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
