Patrick Taormina Obituary

Patrick Leonard Taormina was born on July 8, 1982 in Sacramento. He passed away on June 15, 2016 in Davis, California. He is survived by his wife, Eimi Taormina, his parents Tim and Betty Taormina and brothers Thomas and wife Melinda, Paul and wife Saralyn, as well as his beloved nephew and nieces, Leo, Eleanor and Emily. Patrick is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Stephen and Janet Ruggiero and cousins Mark (Beth), Matthew (Kacey), Joseph (Sherri) Ruggiero, and Barbara Ching (Brian) and their families. Patrick was preceded in death by his grandparents Leonard (Leo) and Bernadine Taormina, Mildred Jones, and Emily Sederholm and his uncle Leonard Taormina and aunt Marilyn Taormina. Patrick grew up in Sacramento and graduated from Christian Brothers High School and the University of California Davis, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Genetics and a Masters Degree in Forensic Science. He was employed at the California Secretary of State's Office. In addition to science and technology, Patrick was especially interested in music and movies and had an extensive collection of films from the silent era to the modern, children's classics to spy thrillers and foreign films. Patrick played the piano and enjoyed many types of music. He combined his love of music and family and his technical skills to digitize a stash of old reel-to-reel audio tapes of his great grandparents, great aunts, great uncles, cousins and his grandfather Leo, playing musical instruments and singing, often in Italian. Like his beloved grandfather, Pat had a warm smile, a wonderful sense of humor and a kind word for everyone he met. He had an open and a generous heart. In his own words, he encouraged us to find hope, love, altruism, and the ability to step outside our own needs and comfort one another. He asked us to take care of each other and to take time today to tell someone how much they mean to you. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his devoted four-legged companion, Pico. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at St. Anthony Church, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA 95831. Inurnment will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Patrick's name to Christian Brothers High School, 4315 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95820 or to a charity of your choice.

We are so sorry for your loss. Both Joe and Matt have told us what a gentle soul Pat was. We didn't know about the service, or we would have been there. Both Pat's life and passing has touched the entire Traverso family more than words can express. We pray that Pat has reached his peace and is resting in the hands of God.

Dear Tim, Betty and family,
It was a special blessing to attend the Memorial Mass for Patrick today. The hymns, readings, homily by Father Madigan, and especially the heartfelt eulogy read by his brother, Paul, were a loving tribute to a young man who meant so much to so many. I hope you can find comfort in the love, warmth, and friendship of all who were there to help you celebrate his life. I pray that your happy memories will be a consolation to you during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
