Samuel Masterson Obituary

MASTERSON, SAMUEL "SAM"
Age 81, passed away Friday, December 27, 2002, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson. Friends may call between 4-8 PM Saturday, December 28th, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral Service will be 1 PM Sunday, December 29, 2002, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with a Military Honor Guard Service. Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate. Mr. Masterson was born May 8, 1921 the son of Duree and Lenora Weltecke Masterson. He and Thelma Owens were married June 30, 1945, she preceded him in death June 20, 1995. He then married Audrey Rodgers Wells on February 13, 1998 and she survives. Other loving survivors is a daughter, Cathy Masterson of Dallas, TX; one brother, Joe D. Masterson of Jackson; two sisters, Pat Davenport and Helen Gohn both of Jackson; one step son, David Wells of Jackson; two step-granddaughters, and three step-great grandchildren. Sam served in the US Army during WW II and Korea and retired as a Major August 23, 1962. He then served 18 years in the Civil Service as a Budget and Systems Analyst, at the US Air Force Logistics Command, retiring in 1983. He moved to Jackson in 1990 from Fair Oaks, CA. Sam was ordained a Deacon in the First Baptist Church at Fair Oaks, then in 1990 he became a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson where he was active on the bereavement committee. Sam was an avid bowler, bowling with several different teams. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to (Church or Foundation).
