Scott Thompson Obituary

THOMPSON, Scott Galen

Oct 16, 1953 -
Feb 28, 2007

A very successful businessman and a collector of antique cars, Scott Galen Thompson was born in Sacramento on October 16, 1953. He grew up in Arden Park and attended Rio Americano High School. He then went on to California State University at Sacramento and majored in business. When only 23, Scott opened and ran the Saddlerock Restaurant in Old Sacramento. Scott then followed his father and grandparents into real eslate, building the family's real estate appraisal company into a thriving business, well known in California and Nevada. Scott had a love of real estate design and always had a major renovation going. He restored antique cars and loved to show up at family events in his new "find," including one of Governor Jerry Brown's retired limos, a 1968 silver and black checker aerobus, a 1937 Cadillac, an old red school bus, among many others. Scott convinced a nephew to wisk his bride away from the church in his World War II motorcycle with a side car. Scott's Sloughhouse ranch was the hub of family gatherings, and he always welcomed visitors from all over. He would give foreign visitors a cowboy hat, call them, "Tex," and let them experience the "wild West" with his horses and llamas. His sense of humor always kept family and friends on edge, like when he put a baby goat in his brother Lance's bed, or disguised his voice and put his friends on.

Scott passed away peacefully in his home on February 28, 2007, after a valiant fight against along illness. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wade and Lance and parents Patricia and Rudolph. He is survived by his wife and business partner Linda, the love of his life; stepdaughters Michelle Garren of Rancho Murieta, Calif., Kimberly McCraw of Susanville, Calif., and their husbands and children; his sister Randal Thompson of Reno, Nev.; and his nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 11, at 2:00 PM at EAST LAWN, 43rd and Folsom Blvd.

I am sick that I was not able to talk to Scott before he left us. We all think we are so busy until something like this happens and it is too late to do anything. Scott, you and your family are in our prayers, Linda.
