Scott Michael Waterman

June 14, 1964 - August 8, 2024

Henderson, Nevada - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Scott Michael Waterman, born June 14, 1964, who passed away on August 8, 2024. A devoted father, dedicated public servant, lover of classic cinema and a good baseball game. Scott made a significant impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his mother, Trudy Waterman, siblings David Waterman (Nancy), Mark Waterman (Susan), Patty Zylstra (Doug) and Dawn Waterman; children Trenton Waterman, Grace Waterman, Jake Waterman, Ethan Waterman, Abbey Waterman and Victoria Waterman; aunt Eva Libecki and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Don Waterman. His family will fondly remember him for his thoughtfulness, generosity and kindness. Scott was a person of responsibility, resilience, and purpose, consistently putting others before himself.

Scott graduated from Mira Loma High School in 1982. Showing early signs of his commitment to public service, he earned his Eagle Scout. He further invested in this commitment through ROTC and completing a degree in Criminal Justice from the California State University, Sacramento in 1986. Scott went on to build a distinguished career in law enforcement and criminal justice, serving as a USAF Officer of Special Investigation, as an Oakland Police Officer and retired as a Sacramento County Criminal Investigator. Scott was highly respected in his field, and his dedication was unwavering throughout his career.

In lieu of flowers, Scott's family kindly requests that donations be made to the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento, a cause close to his heart. Donations can be made at crhkids.org/donate/.

A funeral service honoring Scott's life will be held on October 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Sacramento, CA. A committal ceremony will be held on October 11, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA.

Scott was a co-worker, officemate and was truly the big brother I always wanted. He will always be the example to me of a true good man who would do anything for a friend while also sharing with you anything you ever needed to know about military history and most of all the pride he held for his children. He will be, and should be missed.
