Arnold George Obituary

Arnold Euriel George, 69, of Durham, passed away on May 18, 2022, at Duke Medical Center, Durham. Arnold was born on Dec. 28, 1952, to Euriel George and Sadie C. George in Brooklyn, N.Y. He moved to Cleveland to live with his aunt Beatrice C. Stevenson at an early age. Arnold attended R. A. Clement High School and graduated from West Rowan High School in 1970. He graduated from North Carolina Central University receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Music and received his Master's Degree in Music from the University of Miami. Arnold also served in the Navy from 1984 to 1990. After serving in the Navy, Arnold obtained a position in the Music Department at North Carolina Central University, his alma mater. Arnold played an array of musical instruments for several churches throughout the years and volunteered with many youth groups where he touched numerous lives until his death. Arnold was predeceased by his father, Euriel George; mother, Sadie C. George; brother, Vincent George; aunts, Mrs. Beatrice C. Stevenson (Robert), Roberta Howie (Osbin); family reared as siblings, Briscoe Stevenson, Robert Stevenson, Jr., Carlton Stevenson, Alice Cowan, Clifford Stevenson, Albert Stevenson, and Harry Lee Stevenson. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley George of Newark, N.J.; loving nieces, Joyce George, Yolanda George, Michele George-Coats, Vanessa George; great-nieces, Christina Coats, Tiffany Coats, Kyla Coats, all of Newark, N.J.; cousins, Dr. Lasenia H. Jones (Albert) of Fort Mill, S.C., Thaddeus Howie (Sheila) of Charlotte, Diedra Howie of Winston-Salem, Dr. Cedric Howie of Westland, Mich.; family reared as siblings, Geneva Stevenson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Yvonne S. Edwards, and Daisey S. Litaker both of Salisbury; honorary sister, Stephanie Gaither-Harris (John); dear friend, Priscilla Barbee (Glenn) both of Durham, and a host of other relatives, colleagues, students, and friends who loved him. Arrangements: The visitation will be held at Varick Auditorium at Livingstone College, 701 W. Monroe St, Salisbury, NC on June 20, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. The burial will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC at 11 a.m. MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN PROPERLY DURING VISITATION AND THE HOMEGOING SERVICE. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the North Carolina Central University Jazz Band Program, which he cared for deeply. To the George Family, I met Arnold at NCCU during our freshman band practices. We have maintained our friendship over the years and I already miss him. The world will miss people like him that instill and promote the best for people. I thank God for his friendship. F. Drakeford, Dayton,Oh.
