Elizabeth Jordan Obituary

Elizabeth “Bettie” Jordan, 89, of Salisbury, NC passed away peacefully after a long battle with vascular dementia on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House. She had been a resident of The Summitt Place of Mooresville the last few years of her life.

Bettie was born August 27, 1935 in Stanly County, NC to the late Boyd Pickney Gantt and Zula Lisk Gantt. She was a graduate of Women's College of Greensboro (now UNCG) with a Bachelors of Arts degree. She was a former 4th and 5th grade teacher in the Stanly and Orange County School Systems. Upon moving to Salisbury, Bettie was active with her daughters PTA's and was an active member at First United Methodist Church where she served as a wedding coordinator. She was President of the Rowan Regional Medical Auxiliary for several years and was a longtime member of the McGuffy Graduates Book Club. In addition, Bettie enjoyed her bridge club, playing tennis and cooking. Bettie was a warm, witty and outgoing lady who loved spending time with her granddaughters, her family and her friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard Dorn Jordan and siblings, Robert Baxter Gantt and Boyd Pickney Gantt, Jr. and her sister-in-law, Christine Williamson Gantt.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Dorn Jordan Norton and husband Lee of Mooresville, NC and Elizabeth Crouse Jordan of Salisbury, NC; granddaughters, Elizabeth Dorn Riggsbee and Mary Virginia Riggsbee; sister-in-law, Luray Hatley Jordan of Kernersville, NC and several nieces and a nephew.

The family would like to thank The Summitt Place for their loving care of Bettie during her last years.

The family will have a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House, 1325 Mecklenburg Highway, Mooresville, NC 28115 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

I worked with Betty in the Auxiliary and played tennis with her sometimes . She was soo much fun to be around .
She lived her family !!she will be missed !
