Gloria Perrell Correll

Gloria Jean Perrell Correll, 82, of Cleveland, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Novant Health in Salisbury.

Born on May 2, 1943, in Salisbury, Gloria was the daughter of the late Vetra Sheets Perrell and Joseph Arthur Perrell. She was a graduate of West Rowan High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University. Gloria dedicated her life to teaching and caring for children. She taught in the Salisbury School System and later at the Unity Presbyterian Church Preschool. A devoted and active member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Woodleaf, she served in many roles, including Elder, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School coordinator, and Children's Church leader. Gloria also served for many years as a 4-H Club leader. Known for her joyful spirit, she always had a song for every occasion. Former students, regardless of age, would fondly greet her as “Mrs. Gloria,” with a smile and a hug.

Gloria lovingly cared for her mother in later years and maintained a home that served as the heart of the family. Until just a few years ago, she carried on the cherished Perrell family tradition of gathering on Christmas evening. During summers and after retirement, she assisted on the family farm, particularly during tomato season.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William “Willie” Perrell, and sisters, Carol Perrell Hartley and Sara Perrell Owen. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 56 years, Sam Correll; son Bryan Correll of Cleveland; son David Correll (Cheryl) and their children, Josie and Talton, of Cleveland; brother Larry Perrell (Mildred) of Woodleaf; brother-in-law Eubert Correll of Cleveland; sister-in-law Barbara Perrell of Woodleaf; nieces Kathi Perrell Albea (Derek), Karen Perrell Campbell (Ron Walker), Susan Owen Pugh (Craig), Sally Owen, Ann Hartley, Janice Hartley McHolland, Amy Correll Becker (Larry), Terry Correll Brazinski, Maryann Correll Woods, Beth Correll; and nephews Roger Perrell, Dean Perrell (Marcia), Jody Perrell (Jennifer), and John Correll (Jennifer).

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Unity Presbyterian Church, 885 Woodleaf Barber Road., Cleveland. Dr. David L. Henry will officiate.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the home health workers who provided loving care and support to Gloria in her home. Memorials may be made to Unity Presbyterian Preschool, P.O.
