Philip Wright Obituary

Philip Ray Wright, 84, of Salisbury, NC passed on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.

Born July 30, 1941 in Rowan County, NC he was the son of the late Carl Sylvester Wright and Juanita Abernathy Wright.

Mr. Wright was a graduate of Cleveland High School and Rowan Technical Institute with an electrical installation maintenance degree. He served in the US Army as a radio operator. He worked in the electrical maintenance field for a number of years. Mr. Wright was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was in the Heritage Bible class. He volunteered as a Chaplain with the Piedmont Correctional Center; Craftsman for Christ, building church facilities; and NC Baptist Men, supporting hurricane victims. He enjoyed camping with his family, throwing horseshoes, playing ping pong, mowing the yard, and tending to his garden where he grew award winning tomatoes and shared his produce with others.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Alice Elizabeth Wright and stepbrothers, Jerry and Tony Sims; brother, Carl Steve Wright; and sister, Joyce Ann Wright.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Marilynn Moore Wright; daughter, Sarah Miller (Perry); son, Dwayne Wright (Gina); grandson, Weston Philip Wright; brother, Larry Gene Wright; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 12-1:30PM Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1:30PM in the Summersett Memorial Chapel with Pastor Sam Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to Lisa Lambert from Tender Hearted Home Care and all the staff of Novant Health Hospice.
