Roy Allen Cromer

1944 - 2024

Roy Allen Cromer, 80, of Richfield, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024.

He was born March 10, 1944, in Concord, the son of the late Roy Stuart Cromer and Gertrude Scarboro Cromer. Mr. Cromer was a graduate of Odell School in Concord and later attended barber college. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving for three years in Germany prior to his honorable discharge on June 30, 1969. Mr. Cromer was a barber for 10 years and later worked for and retired from UPS after 27 years, where he was a feeder driver. Roy enjoyed spending his time fishing, traveling to the beach, and classic cars, especially Chevrolets. He was a talented woodworker who enjoyed making walking staffs (which he referred to as "Cromer Canes") and giving them to others. His woodworking skills also extended to banjos; although he could play the banjo, he often joked that the banjos he made were "prettier than the music he could play."

He is survived by his wife Brenda Starnes Cromer, whom he married March 25, 1967; his children, Roy Michael Cromer and wife, Sherri, of Pinnacle, NC and Nikki Cromer Koontz and husband, Darren, of Richfield; grandchildren, Jordan Keith Koontz, Noah Kiser and wife, Sarah; and sister, Bonnie Beaver and husband, Doug. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM during Roy's celebration of life on Friday, July 12, at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.
