William Behrendt Obituary

William Earl Behrendt, 87, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Novant Health Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Erna Augusta Schaedel and Edward W. Behrendt. He lived in New Jersey for many years then retired to North Carolina and recently moved to Trinity Oaks. Mr. Behrendt attended Valparaiso University and received a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. He worked at ITT Avionics Division in military electronics for 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he sang in both choirs. He also sang in barbershop choruses and quartets for decades. Mr. Behrendt was a member of Rufty-Holmes Senior Center and was a volunteer with AARP Tax Aid for 21 years. He delivered for Meals on Wheels for several years and volunteered at the North Carolina Transportation Museum restoring a DC-3 plane. He was a man who could fix anything, including computers, cars, and home gadgets. He enjoyed puzzles and had a very nice speaking and singing voice. He had the ability to arrange four-part harmony for any song. He traveled frequently for his job, and along with his wife Linda, traveled to 40 states and 10 countries. Mr. Behrendt was well liked by everyone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Behrendt and Edward Behrendt. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Tancordo Behrendt, whom he married on May 24, 1986; sons, Richard Behrendt of Hilliard, OH and James Behrendt (Catherine) of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren, Cory Behrendt, John Behrendt, and Michael Behrendt; nephews, Donald Behrendt (Kathy) of Strongsville, OH and Rev. Joshua Tancordo (Becky); niece, Elizabeth Tancordo; brothers-in-law, Fred Tancordo and Nick Tancordo (Linda). Visitation: 9:30-10:30 AM Friday, May 27, 2022 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul's Church Rd, Salisbury, NC 28146. Service: 10:30 AM Friday, May 27, 2022 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Ryman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Capital Building Fund. Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Behrendt family.
