David Feldman Obituary

David Jay Feldman
1947 ~ 2014
Born January 14, 1947 in South Bend, Indiana, David was the first child of Mel and Nancy Feldman.
Dave was a two-time University of Utah alumnus, with degrees in both English and Mechanical Engineering. Before retiring less than a month ago from a 35+ year career as a mechanical engineer and a member of ASHRAE, he was an English teacher, ski patrolman, and greenskeeper; It was during that time Dave developed his love of golf.
Dave loved his family very much and bragged about them constantly. His dry and clever sense of humor was the hallmark of his presence. He encouraged the pursuit of knowledge and enjoyed seeing his children and grandchildren excel in their endeavors.
Dave's loves were many: his wife Carol of 32 years and four kids, golf, University of Utah Athletics, family gatherings, the Chicago Cubs, details, spreadsheets, and potato chips with sour cream. Dave also took pride in having a beautiful lawn (not grass!).
Survived by: his mother, Nancy; wife, Carol; children, Jacqueline (Doug), Nathaniel, Daniel, and Hannah; grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Sarah (Zach), Abbie, Emily, Kaleb, Mia, Maya, Addison, and Elyse; several nieces and nephews; siblings, Cynthia (Ron), Martha (Hobart), Ben (Jenna), and Matt (Laura); and dog Wrigley. Preceded in death by his father Melvin J. Dave had a close and loyal group of friends that he will dearly miss on and off the golf course and at Utah Football games. And, like his father, wished he could have seen The Cubs win the World Series.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 29 in the Varsity Room (6th floor) of Rice Eccles Stadium at 7 p.m. Please dress in golf or University of Utah attire.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a scholarship fund of your choosing in Dave's name. Go Utes!

Carol,
I just heard about Dave! How profound! I think about you guys often. Those years we all worked together I will never forget. I like what you guys wrote about his “dry and clever sense of humor”, made me smile! But more I remember how he helped me perfect my skiing abilities with his little tips and ability to teach. I always admired that he had been a ski patrol man. It helped me peruse my ambitions in the ski and mountain guiding professions. I shared with many people the advice he gave me on how to ski. I'll never forget skiing at Park City at one of our parties. Months later at one of our meeting you guys gave me that enlarged picture he took of me jumping on my skis. I think I cried! I still have that picture to this day. It means so much to me! I am really proud that I got to meet him and that he was such a memorable influence in my life. Well, my condolences goes out to you and your family. Yours truly…

Carol- I am so sorry about Dave- He was a great person and will be missed by many. The biggest regret I have with Dave, and it's not all the money I paid him on the golf course, it's that we did not have enough work to keep him on our staff just before he left to work with Tom My heart and prays are with you and Dave

Carol,

The picture of Dave in the Trib is how I have always remembered him. He made sure to seek me out last year at a conference we both attend and talked about golf first then work. He is one of the good ones. My thought are with you.

Nancy, Carol
We are saddened at David's untimely passing. It has been years when we saw you and him at Oak Ridge, more since grandmother's family reunion, and many more since David, Cynthia, Michael and I played together at Miami Street. Still wonderful memories. With our deepest condolences. Stuart and Norma

I'll miss the many conversations Dave and several of us guys at work had at lunch time sitting at the "cool kids table". Sometimes serious, but mostly they would take a ridicules turn some where. Dave is a funny guy. We'll miss him.
