Don Gines Obituary

1925 ~ 2013
Don J Gines was born in Woodland, Summit County, Utah, on December 8, 1925, the second of 12 children born to Rex and Thelma Gines. He was raised on a dairy farm and was baptized in the Provo River. Don was the student body president of South Summit High School, played football and took regional honors in track. Don married his high school sweetheart LaRee Thayne in 1945 while he was on a one week leave from the military before going oversees during World War II. As part of the Greatest Generation, he served his country in Italy, Austria, and North Africa.
Don and LaRee's marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, and they settled in Bountiful, where Don built their dream home. He was the father of four daughters: Linda Hedges, Cathy (Danne) Hughes, Deon Gines, and Terry (Wayne) Allred, and had 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Don attended electronics school and Utah State University. He worked at Hill Air Force base for 30 years and was section chief for many years until retirement. Don and LaRee always encouraged their grandchildren to go to college and helped make it possible for them. Don's interests included family first, church, travel, reading, and new cars. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan. Don loved music and he taught his daughters to play the piano. Don and LaRee spent many days snow skiing.
Don was preceded in death by LaRee, and granddaughter Andrea.
He is survived by siblings Bernice Bye, Margaret Heise, Howard Gines, and Ellen Rees.
Funeral services will be held at the Woodland Hills Ward (640 S 750 E Bountiful); Sunday February 24, 5-6 p.m. viewing; Monday February 25, 10 a.m. viewing, 11 a.m. funeral, and Lakeview Cemetery interment.

Hi Linda:

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family for the passing of your father. I know you loved him very much and will miss him a lot. He is with his lovely wife and your mother and I am sure he is very happy to be with her. I know that does not make it any easier for you because you will really miss him. Isn't it wonderful that familes are forever and ond day we will all be together again. I love you a lot Linda and I know your heart hurts. I am sorry that I will not be able to go to his funeral to be there as your friend and to help comfort you.

Love, GayLynn
