Joseph Cwik Obituary

Joseph C. Cwik

1934 ~ 2023

Salt Lake City, Utah -The patriarch of our family - our father, grandfather and uncle, Joseph C. Cwik, 89, Salt Lake City, passed on November 29th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born March 17th to parents Andrew and Anna Cwik in Chicago, Illinois.

He met his forever love, Joann, while stationed with the United States Navy Air Group in Hawaii. They married in Chicago, Illinois, on August 31, 1957 - a union that lasted 64 years.

After marriage, life took them to Champagne-Urbana, IL (graduate of University of Illinois), Los Angeles (teacher), Arizona and Utah (US Government/DOJ), with retirement in Salt Lake City. The couple raised their three children in southern California and Utah.

Joe will be remembered as the Patriarch of his family - fiercely dedicated to his role as husband and father, always focused on taking care of his family. A veteran of the Korean War, serving 4 years with the Navy Air Group, and a devout Catholic, he was a man of intense integrity. He had a soft-heart towards those less fortunate than he - quietly paying the tuition for several students at St. Vincents over the years and those of his sibling's family members. He also regularly donated to charities like the Boys and Girls Club and loved leaving ridiculously large tips for servers. We will miss his unique sense of humor and the fantastical stories from his time as a teacher, US Navyman and DOJ special agent.

Joseph is survived by his son John Cwik (Las Vegas), daughter Katherine Cwik (Salt Lake City), and granddaughter Cassandra Jo Cwik (Las Vegas). He was preceded in death by his wife Joann and eldest son Richard, also his parents and all of his siblings.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 8th at 11:30 AM, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church - 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, Utah. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30am at St. Vincent's prior to Mass on December 8th. Joseph will be laid to rest following Mass at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Please visit www.Starksfuneral.com to share photos and memories with Joseph's family.

The Cwik family extends much gratitude for the loving, compassionate and supportive care provided by the 3 West Tower and 4 North Tower nursing and doctors' staff at St. Marks Hospital and symbii Home Health and Hospice during the final weeks of our Dad's journey. We are forever thankful for their attentiveness, guidance, grace and kindness.
