Reverend Miner E. Bruner

Reverend Miner E. Bruner, 89, of Logan, Utah passed away October 21, 2002 at the Logan Regional Hospital. Reverend Bruner was born Oct. 17, 1913 to Haver and Mina Ree Bruner in Broadwater, Nebraska. He was the oldest son of six children. Miner graduated from Broadwater High School in 1931, continuing his education at Hastings College, University of Nebraska, and Chadron State College. He graduated Sum Cum Laude from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1943, serving as President of his seminary class. Miner and Helen Briedenbach were married September 12, 1942 in San Geronimo, California where Miner served as pastor for the San Geronimo Presbyterian Church. In 1943 Miner accepted the pastor position at the First Presbyterian Church in Logan, Utah, also serving as the Protestant Chaplain at Utah State. His passion for sports and young people, enabled him to become an active community leader; coaching little league baseball, assisting in the establishment of Troop 1 of the Boy Scouts of America, and entertaining the Logan public school students as a magician. During the 1960's he was elected Moderator of Synod of California, one of the highest honors in the Presbyterian Church. In recognition of his outstanding services, he was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Divinity at Westminster College. In 1984 he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Miner retired as Pastor of the Logan First Presbyterian Church in 1986. His love and caring for people served him well as he continued his work as Minister of the Preston Community Church through 1995. Miner is survived by his loving wife Helen; son Larry Bruner and wife Karen of Loveland, CO; daughter Diane Bruner Watkins and husband Stan also of Loveland; four grandchildren: Eric Bruner of Princeton, NJ; Elise Bruner Gale and husband Mathew of Menlo Park, CA; Luke Watkins of Fort Collins, CO; and Kate Watkins of Santa Cruz, CA. "Pop – you are the guiding light of our family." Surviving relatives: Ralph and Dorothy Bruner of Aurora, CO; Charline Dembo of Broadwater, NE; and Jean Bruner of Scottsbluff, NE. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, October 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, UT. Funeral service to be conducted by Dr. John Cushman and Rev. Dave Hedgepeth, at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, at the Logan First Presbyterian Church, 12 South 200 West, followed by a reception in the church gymnasium.
