Philip Barlow Obituary

1951 ~ 2017
Philip Craig Barlow was born in Albuquerque, NM on April 9, 1951 to Ruby Alice and Newell Hjorth Barlow. Philip was the youngest of 8 children. He spent his early years growing up in Bountiful. Philip first started working in a furniture store at 15. He then worked for over 30 years as a surveyor, foreman and road crew chief building highways and dams in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. He was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 3 union. He loved being outdoors enjoying nature and was an avid skier and fisherman. He collected many classic cars, trucks, buses, boats and especially British motorcycles. Philip was a passionate motorcycle rider and longtime member of the Utah British Bike Club. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Philip moved on peacefully on January 25th. We will all miss Phil's smile, generous giving heart, as well as his free and fun-loving spirit. Philip's family would like to thank the Pheasant Run Alzheimer's Special Care Center of South Jordan for their compassionate care in his last days.
Philip is survived by his daughter, September (Michael) Erickson of Salt Lake City and son Donavun (Faith) Wagner and grandchildren Hope and Sebastian of Olathe, KS. He is also survived by brothers Lynn, Brian, Merlin and sister Linda Diane. Philip is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul, Roger and Robert and wife Cristy.

I am going to address this instead to my dear niece September at the same time it will bring about great thoughts of this awesome special soul that He was..So*Especially for dear September from her aunti Nola... The last time I ran into your father,September, He was at the funeral of John Gabbot who was also a good friend of mine. I just had such a great chat with him and Merlin whom he was with.. I just have always loved your father from day one of meeting him years ago, even from when you were just a wee little one and he came to visit here and there, and through out the years whenever I had opportunity to once more see him I always enjoyed his sweet awesome personality. (And loved that he had a beard at the time when it wasn't as popular. Finally the world came around to once more realizing how awesome bushy beards were again. Ha.)He and Merlin started speaking some of your younger days in such happy ways and I loved hearing them speak so dearly of you and even all the fun that you would have skiing.. Then He and Merlin started reminiscing about your beginnings of when they started taking you skiing and they were chucking putting out memories of how even from the time you first started skiing when you were very little they said that you would many times speed on by them and they would struggle at times keeping up with U.. Especially as you became older and even better at it .. lol.. (I used to luv skiing too, so I could relate to what they were saying.). Reminded me as to what a great father your dad has been to you through the years.. especially in your younger years when he would come and take you and you would have great times together... It was sad to see him becoming so "run down" and declining and older...But sadly that is one thing that happens to so many as they get older in years.. Yet.. He still had that twinkle in his eye and ever his sweet way about him that I have always loved and enjoyed.. Just wish they could stay young and healthy... .. Was so glad I ran into Him... *I know that mom and dad always enjoyed him also.. He was many times a great blessing in your life and I am thankful that U had him as a father.. Now........................... May you always find comfort in the knowledge that he will still have opportunity to be in your life as an angel.. and he still loves U ever so dearly.. It is all real.. OUr souls still live in the next life.. and there may even be times he will help U through hard times or illness or even watch over and warn or protect U in different ways.. and he will even be there to celebrate with U or to attend your programs.. I know this to be true.. He still loves U ever so dearly..

I loved Phil. I joined UBBC back in the early 2000's. He was one of the purest, most honest, most pleasant guy's I had ever met. On a Torrey outing, 10,12 years ago, Phil had ridden one of his vintage bikes and on the ride back to SL, the bike started losing power. It ran, but wouldn't accelerate normally or maintain speed on hills. I started with Phil out of Torrey up SR 72 when the problems with his bike began on the long uphill to the pullover at the pass. I asked him if we could help, he checked the bike out, but couldn't make it run normally. I told Phil to nurse it along and told him I would ride with him. We made it home late but safe. Phil thanked me for staying with him every ride we went on afterwards. All I did was ride a little slower than usual, but he treated me like I'd saved his life. He always wanted to help. If ever a person deserved the highest place in Heaven, it's Phil.

I knew Phil thru my Hubby. They were lifelong friends and I'll forever remember him for his kindness, loving spirit, and picture him on the Ducati he rode the last time he visited. Glad I knew him! Renee Turner

This is sad news. Phil's kindness and considerate nature always was evident in the infrequent time we would spend together over the past couple of decade, I enjoyed every minute. Just this week I was wondering how he is doing. It's a tragedy that his final years were such a struggle and that he left us too soon. My condolences to Phil's family.
