RUBY JOHNSON Obituary

Ruby M. Horne Johnson 1920 ~ 2010 Ruby H. Johnson passed away July 10, 2010. She was born May 29, 1920 in Driggs, Idaho to George Walter Horne and Rebecca Martin Horne, the second youngest of 11 children. The family moved to Salt Lake City when Ruby was an infant where she was raised and attended West High School. Ruby met Alma Sherril Johnson, "Dub" to the world, when she worked at his hamburger stand on South Temple. They married August 14, 1940 and began their life together, having two children, Eric Boyd Johnson and Shirley M. Johnson. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 15, 1982, a joyous day for hundreds here and hundreds beyond. Ruby was a talented artist; a devotee of music, books and the theater; and a lover of everything beautiful, especially flowers. Ruby was shy about speaking and praying in public, but she still accepted church callings as a teacher, secretary, visiting teacher and greeter. Everyone who ever met her loved her and considered her a friend. She will be sorely missed. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Shirley; her best friend and sister, Mildred; and her brother Robert. She was preceded in death by her husband. Dub, son Boyd, eight of her brothers and sisters and parents. It was appropriate that she died on July 10th, the reunion for the Horne family celebrating a special healing that took place. She was able to enjoy the reunion with all the people involved. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ensign Stake Center, 135 A Street in Salt Lake City. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. in Sandy. Mom loved flowers, but if you'd like to, please contribute to the Church or your favorite charity.

Shirley,
I was so sad to hear of your mom's passing. She was such a wonderful person and friend to. I had forgotten the care center she was in and was trying to get hold you or maybe even your mom. I thought she may be home by this time but the phones just rang and rang. Thank goodness I was able to reach Millie. Your mom holds such a special place in my heart. We go back forever. Ruby was a joy to be around. and I love her so very much.

What a wonderful woman! She was my visiting teacher many years ago when I was a young Mother of 4 and caring for my parents as well. She often showed up and performed compassionate acts for me and my family. She was a great example to me. I will never forget her.

I was so sad to hear of Ruby's passing. She was a beautiful, talented and lovely woman who always seemed to be happy no matter what burden she was carrying. I hope Shirley knows that her friends are praying for her and thinking about her during this tender and difficult time.

To our dear Aunt Ruby, who we will always remember for her graciousness, her ability to put food on the table for those vagabonds rolling into the city from Vernal or elsewhere, for her beautiful hair that always looked like she had just come from the hair dresser, and for her infectious laugh. We will miss you but know that you are where you want to be. And to Shirley, our thoughts and prayers are with you. You are very dear to us, and we look forward to rallying to your support during this challenging time and beyond. Our door is always open to you.
