Shirley Ruth Merritt Thompson returned peacefully to her loving Father in Heaven on September 9, 2014 in Taylorsville, Utah. Shirley was born January 19, 1930 to William Edward Merritt and Carrie Anglesey Merritt in Afton, Wyoming. She married Dean S. Thompson April 26, 1954. Dean preceded her in death on March 22, 2004. Shirley considered being a wife and mother a blessing and her greatest joy. She was so proud of each of her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful grandmother to her 7 grandsons-making them feel she loved each one the most. "We will miss her sweet spirit and kind heart. We love you!" She is survived by 3 children, Terry (Sharon), LaDeane (Noel) Klawe and David; 7 grandsons; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise, Laura, Zelma and Norene; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. The family would like to thank Inspiration Hospice and all the caregivers who cared for Shirley.
Services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Clay Park Chapel, 67 W. Clay Park Drive (about 6300 South). A viewing will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, and at the church on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery. My sincere condolences to the family of Shirley Ruth Merritt. Aunt Carrie was a special person and her children had to have many of her traits. I loved it when we got to see Aunt Carrie and her family in the Star Valley area. Many times we could get my grandma, Annie Izatt to go with us to visit but if she didn't my mom, Wilda Izatt Hatton would tell dad we were going anyway. My prayers are with you all today and may God bless each of you. Shirley will be greeted by many family members who have gone before and are waiting for her.
