Daniel Jones Obituary
Daniel H. (Danny) Jones, passed away January 18, 2013. Danny was born in Charleston, SC, January 18, 1949. Danny is survived by his loving wife, Rajia Tobia, 2 sons, Andrew and Patrick, sisters, Kathy, Tesa, Sallie, Mary Frances, and Patty, and brother Charles (Bubba) Jones, nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Danny was happily retired. He held previous positions as a medical librarian at the Texas Biomedical Institute, UT Health Science Center, and the University of South Alabama and served in the Peace Corps in Malaysia. He received his bachelors of science degree from Clemson University and his master's degree from Emory University. Danny cherished his family, friends, a good glass of wine, and politics. He loved gardening, traveling, books, and movies. He was a member of the Native Plant Society of Texas and donated many hours to Boy Scout Troop 405 at St. Luke's Catholic Church. He will be terribly missed by everyone who knew him. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with at rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 24, 2013.

In my bookselling days I had many opportunities to talk to Danny while he ran the Harrassowitz operation in Mobile. Later I called on him in his role as a librarian. In all our meetings, personal and professional, I was always struck by Danny's genteel spirit and thoughtfulness. He was and is admired by many and came by that admiration quite honestly. His passing is sad news to many of us who knew him and called him a colleague.

I still can't believe Danny is gone. I remember so vividly working with him at the library, especially when we all were working so hard as a team to get information out of Georgetown's LIS system and into Innovative. He was a wonderful leader - soft spoken and kind and confident we could do this on time. We will miss him, Rajia. His early death reminds us all that life is so short and we should hold and love those who are dear to us every day. May God bless you and help you through this time of grief.

Dear Rajia,
The visitation and funeral mass were beautiful, befitting Danny, a beautiful man. The music was wonderful, which caused me to think about the symphony concerts the five of us attended together and we usually completed the evening by going to a nearby restaurant for snacks and critique the music, musicians, composers, conductor and anything else that came to mind. I will miss Danny in so many ways.

Dear Rajia & Danny's entire family: Words seem so inadequate at such a time, but I offer my condolences and remembrances: Like so many others, I knew Danny through library-related entities, such as NASIG and also during the time he was with Harrassowitz. Danny will be missed at our Saturday breakfasts and other gatherings. He was a gentle and caring person who put his family first. He talked proudly of his two sons, Patrick and Andrew. Rajia, Danny was 11 months older than me. I lost my husband from a long illness 14 months ago and I know how hard that has been but to lose your husband unexpectedly is devastating. My heart goes out to you and your family. The pictures you shared showed his wonderful spirit. God bless and keep you over this next period of time as the numbness you feel now is a blessing. I am so truly sorry to hear about Danny. He was a wonderful library colleague who had a warm, generous spirit. I enjoyed seeing him at NASIG, Aqueduct and ALA Meetings before his retirement.
