David Fuller Obituary

David Story Fuller M.D.
September 9, 1930 - March 26, 2024
David Story Fuller M.D., age 93, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 26, 2024, in San Antonio Texas. Dr. Fuller was born September 9,1930 in Abilene, Texas to Gertrude Story and Roy Cox Fuller. He was the last born of their four children. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy Cox and Gertrude Fuller, sister Aletha Fuller, brothers John Frank Fuller (Joan), Roy Lee Fuller, and his nephew John David Fuller. David is survived by his large extended family including nephew, Jonathan Fuller (Allison) nieces, LeeAnne Gilman (Gil), Kay Fuller (Sally Oey), Glynda Fuller, Francine Fuller, sister-in-law Pat Fuller and many grand and great grand nephews and nieces. David is remembered fondly by all those who knew him well including his many wonderful friends, students, colleagues, and neighbors.

David graduated as an honor student from Abilene High School in 1948. Then in 1951 he was a summa cum laude graduate of Hardin Simmons University. He proceeded to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, graduating in 1956. David went on to continue his medical training in Chapel Hill, North Carolina completing a 3 yr. Psychiatric residency in 1960. That same year, he became a Psychiatry Department Faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. In 1968 David took on a new challenge, moving to San Antonio Texas and becoming a founding Faculty Member of the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School of San Antonio. For 27 years, David was Chief of the Psychiatric Consultation Service, and Course Director of Psychopathology for Second year Med Students. It's been said by many physicians that Dr. Fuller was a superb teacher who set very high standards for his students. While his exams were extremely difficult, he was often described as one who always went the extra mile for his students' success. He performed that same way for all those with which he closely interacted. Additionally, Dr. David Fuller also experienced substantial professional satisfaction providing psychotherapy for a limited number of private patients.

Dr. David Fuller highly appreciated and respected global cultural and ethnic backgrounds. He loved to listen to others' stories, and he also loved to share his enthusiasm with family and friends telling his stories. David appreciated serious, unique collections and sharing details. David greatly enjoyed frequent physical exercise with friends at the Jewish Community Center. In addition, pipe organ and classical music played a major role in his life as did his relations with many special friends. David loved his music, family and all those who shared his great experiences throughout his long, wonderful life.
