Michael Callahan Obituary

March 11, 1943 - March 9, 2016
Michael Sheridan Callahan was born March 11, 1943 in Culpepper, VA and passed over to his Lord and the angels on March 9, 2016. Michael was an angel himself right here on earth. A wonderful man who so totally loved his family, cared mightily for his friends and mankind in general, his kindness and humility were practically legendary.

Mike moved to San Antonio as a young man and attended Jefferson High School where he excelled on the football field. He played on a legendary team with the likes of Hix Green, Anthony King, Phil Harris and the great Tommy Nobis. Mike started as a defensive back on that team and backed up Harris at running back. He has been active with the Mustangs' alums ever since and has many wonderful lifelong friends from that team. He graduated in 1961.

Mike graduated from St. Mary's University in 1968 with a B.A. degree, then attended South Texas Law School in Houston where he received a J.D. degree in 1974. He was immediately hired by the Bexar County District Attorney and served as an assistant D.A. for 4 years when he went into private practice. Mike practiced civil and criminal law in Bexar and many other counties throughout Texas during a 38 year career as a solo practitioner. He was an excellent criminal defense lawyer and respected by all of his peers. He tried many jury trials, everything from a traffic ticket to capital murder and was very successful.

Mike was predeceased by his father and mother, William Ray Callahan and Sue Guinn Callahan, and his sister Coleen Melton.

He is survived by his wife Natalia and four sons Brett David, William Victor, John Michael and Ryan Michael and a daughter Kody Vallejo. He is also survived by three sisters: Mary Ruth Earman, Donna Caldwell and Elizabeth Kilpatrick and seven grandchildren: Austin Callahan, Maura Callahan, Madeline Callahan, Tristan Callahan, Maxine Callahan, Aria Vallejo and Aiden Alexander Vallejo.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 24th at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry Avenue., San Antonio, Texas.

I knew Mike for more than 36 years. A good man and a "character" in the best sense of the word. Always willing to help with a word of advice or assurance. He will be missed around the Bexar County Courthouse.
God Bless you Mike. Thanks for the good times!!

I knew Mike for over thirty years and he was a credit to his profession and a great mentor to young lawyers. When he appeared in my Court he was always one of the smartest lawyers in the room and had a gift to communicate with people at all levels. As a fellow Irishman, he will be missed and blessed in heaven.
