Sonya Blumenthal Obituary

SONYA (SUNNY) BLUMENTHAL
February 27, 1936 - May 4, 2025
Sonya (Sunny) Blumenthal passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Sunny was born on February 27, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to loving parents Joseph and Tillie Setlow and went on to lead a life filled with creativity, elegance, and deep devotion to her family.

She met her beloved husband, Ira (Bob) Blumenthal, on a blind date, and they shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a full and adventurous life, raising two beautiful children and co-founded a successful chemical company, Noah Chemicals, which they moved from New York to San Antonio in the mid-1980s.

Sunny had a remarkable career and creative spirit. In her early years, she worked for the Rockefeller family and then was a jewelry model for Harry Winston, embodying the grace and poise that defined her throughout her life. She was an accomplished interior designer who transformed homes across the Northeast with her signature elegance and creative vision. She was also a passionate multimedia artist-creating paintings, sculpture, and jewelry-and her talent and eye for beauty could be seen in everything she touched.

Beyond her artistic gifts, Sunny was a vibrant woman of many interests. She was an avid tennis player, a lover of theater and a voracious reader, a keen bridge player, and a dedicated follower of both the stock market and politics. She enjoyed traveling and volunteering her time, always engaging the world with energy and curiosity.

Sunny was known for her determination, loyalty, and refined elegance. Above all, she was devoted to her family and found deep joy in supporting her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina Blumenthal; her son, Jon Blumenthal and his wife, Susan; her grandchildren, Colt, Alexis, and Logan Blumenthal; Claire Blumenthal and her husband, David Mendel; and Kate Blumenthal and her fiancé, Josh Baron.
