James Fallon Obituary

FALLON, JAMES LEO James Leo Fallon born August 5, 1939 in New York City, died December 23, 2007 in El Cajon, CA. Jim was a man who had done many things in his lifetime. He was a Corporal and a radio repairman in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco and trained in Beirut, Lebanon and Princeton, New Jersey; he was a Scholar of English Renaissance Literature who studied at the State University of New York in Albany, San Diego State University and the University of Wisconsin in Madison and he was a history buff. As an English teacher, he found good qualities in every student he taught; he could tell a good story, sing a great song and tell some pretty corny jokes. He loved good books and good music. Most of all, he was a man who loved and was deeply loved by his family. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patti, and his two children Matthew Fallon and Katie Fallon Hamlin. He is also survived by his son-in-law Jeff Hamlin and two grandchildren, Griffin and Autumn Hamlin, as well as his brother Richard Fallon in Coram, New York and his soon to be daughter-in-law Anna Webb. Services will be held at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 625 Pennsylvania Ave. in San Diego on January 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or one of Jim's favorite charities: Amnesty International, Children Inc., or the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Mass was wonderful for Jim, very fitting and respectful as he was to everyone. It was to my benefit to have taught with Jim at RDC...he touched so many lives is such a positive way. He was a great friend. Best to you Patti, Matt and Katie.

I have many fond memories of Jim from our days at JCCS, especially when he was in charge of the resource center when it was located downtown. His was a friendly face and an altruistic soul. My condolences to his family.

I met Jim Fallon many years ago when I first began working with the San Diego County Office of Education. I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Fallon always made me feel a welcome addition to the SDCOE family. The world is a sadder place today without him.

My sympathy to the family. I only met Mr.Fallon a couple of times but I was friends with Matt when we worked @ Payless. I know how close he was with his dad. I know the pain associated with losing a parent as I lost my dad 12/31/98. I will keep your family in my prayers.

To the Family of Mr. Fallon,

Please accept my condolences during this difficult time. Mr. Fallon had a great impact to those students whom had the honor to have had Mr. Fallon as an English instructor. He truly cared for those less fortunate, which in turn made his students the fortunate ones to have known him. He will always be remembered.

Although we were not related by blood, I grew up admiring my "Uncle Jim." I will always cherish my memories of listening to Jim tell some amazing, funny stories as he giggled along with us... sometimes even more than anyone else! He, along with Patti, had a profound influence on my intellect and wit and in that sense he will always be a part of who I am.
Patti, Katie and Matt... my thoughts are with you.
I love you,
Romy

Out of all my teachers in the past, Mr. Fallon is the only teacher to whom made a profound impact in my life. He was the funniest, and most caring individual. I had done poorly in English and he gave me a special assignment of watching a Shakespear movie "Macbeth,"and I was to interprete the story, which I complied an received an "A." He used to do an interpretation of a Vincent Price movie "The Fly;" waving his arms around and in a high pitched voice saying "help me." A few years later;after, I graduated Mr. Fallon saw me at a bus stop and offered me a ride in his sports car, and I agreed. He wanted to catch up with me and wanted to know what I was up to after graduating. Mr. Fallon took out a picture of his baby and wanted me to see the new addition to the "Fallon Family." Mr. Fallon's humor, kindness, thoughtfulness, intelligence will always be etched in my memory and in my heart. Mr. Fallon you were the greatest!
