Great memory of a class field trip to his office with our Mommy-and-me preschool class of 3-year-olds. The kids loved riding up and down in the chair, playing with the electric train set and raiding the prize closet at the end of the visit. I´ll never forget getting home and realizing that 6-Year-old Teresa had filled the brown paper bag with 16 toy rings! I called the office and apologized and said we would return them the next day. They assured me it was ok this once. (Teresa said she got them for each of her friends in our Girl Scout Troop of 16.) Thank you Dr. Whitcomb. Great memories of your office.

Dr. Whitcomb took over the practice from my previous Dentist who went away to become a missionary. Dr. Whitcomb was my Dentist from then on for many years until I could no longer fit in the chair as an adult patient (1970). I remember having to take the bus down either University Ave or El Cajon Blvd to now Dr. Whitcomb's office, I remember the walk was not too far away from the bus stop. A great dentist for kids.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we learn of the passing of our beloved office partner and friend, Dr. Kenneth Whitcomb. We bid farewell to a gentle giant, whom we lost a few days ago at the young age of 92. A second father to me, he was a fantastic mentor and friend. I will miss him dearly and so will our staff. He was a specially gifted pediatric dentist who had the kindest soul and touch and the best sense of humor. We practiced together from 1996 until his retirement in 2013 and his fingerprints are still embedded in our practice. For the many years that followed, he would still come visit us and bring joy to my staff and me, and always with special treats. His three daughters and his wife Patty and 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever miss him more. Godspeed to you Ken. May you have "Peace at Last". Love always,
Dr. Santiago A. Surillo

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Whitcomb's passing. Prayers to his family as they go through this difficult time. I recall a time when my daughter was three years old and I took her to the family dentist. I was informed it was important to expose children to the dentist office experience before they needed those services. She screamed at the dentist and then he screamed at me implying I somehow had prepared her to be afraid. I searched and asked friends until I located Dr. Whitcomb's office near Spring St. The Doctor and staff introduced her to the fish tank and the comfortable chair where she sat and they talked patiently. They were so gentle and kind my daughter willingly left me in the waiting room and only returned to me when it was time to go. I know she had a new impression of dentists and a toothbrush in her hand. She was seen in that office for years. Thank you for allowing me to share this memory. God Bless family and friends.
