Blessings and love to Sheri and family. I enjoyed knowing Richard for these many years. I especially remember time spent in Maine with both of you and his supply of quarters for the Gilmore soda machine. He had a great sense of humor! Love, Virginia

Dear Classmates,
I'm sure most of you know that Richard had been ill for a while and he and Sheri had to cut their annual Maine vacation short last July.
Richard was very stoic and kept his spirits up right to the end in spite of being in a lot of pain. Sheri was his caregiver and companion and was with him in the hospital at the end.
My brother John and I flew to San Diego on Oct. 1st and were able to spend four days with Rich and Sheri. His health had improved a few days before we got there and he was up and around. In addition to his doctors appointments he was able to go out for breakfast and dinner with us and we even took him to his beloved American Legion Hall one afternoon. His friends were all glad to see him. Rich had a
friend and neighbor named Rick who would come over daily and do yard work and chores around the house and even sometimes drive him to his doctors appointments. He was truly a good friend. I'm sure you all have fond memories of Richard over the years. I know he certainly had a lot of friends and I'm sure he'd want you all to
think back and chuckle about the good times at Hampden Academy.
Sheri is planning a service on Friday October 28th in California and I know she'd like to hear from some of Richard's friends. My brothers
Tim and John, my sister Linda and myself will be going to San Diego for the service.
Best Wishes
Tom Gilmore

Until We Meet Again

All of us on Half Moon Pond love Sheri and Rich (Gilly) Gilmore. Although they live in San Diego, we look forward to their return in the spring when we commence to open up our camps for a new, exciting season. Gilly would first unveil his pride and joy golf cart, and Sheri a talented artist, would begin to creatively paint her masterpieces. Gilly has roots on Half Moon Pond with some of his old high school side kick classmates, Ralph, and Herb. He and his dear buddies stuck together all season long helping each other with camp projects. Ralph, Herb, Cliff, Dave, Lance, Randy, all liked to stay busy and we can tell where the action was by the echoing motor of Riches golf cart. We all called Rich the pond Sheriff, as he drove the Boulevard four or five times a day to check on everyone. The only Sheriff we knew, that drove with his blue and white can sitting in his cup holder. It was comforting knowing he was on patrol, making sure we were all counted for and safe. Rich was so predictable with his characteristic routine check- ins and we missed him when he did not ride by us.
Everyone on the pond has their own history and stories of Gilly, and we all cherish our memories together. Sometimes we gathered for happy hours and appetizers, and maybe later played a competitive, fun game of Sequence or Chicken Foot Dominos with Sheri and Rich. Gilly also liked keeping a stash of carrots in his golf cart, for his four legged pond friends and any other visited dog owners. Whenever we had company with dogs, they were quick to befriend and recognize Gilly and his golf cart, with wagging tails they greeted him and his carrot treats. His warm smile, dimpled grin, and dancing blue eyes, were contagious, a man of few words, but memorable. Gilly's quarter coke machine stood with charm and character in his garage. It took you back in time with a quarter and a chuckle, when his blue and white can fell out. His signature golf cart served many purposes and was ready to help, hauling his wood splitter, and trailer-pulling, but most of all were his endless pleasure rides rounding the pond! He was a creature of habit and life was good and simple on the pond.
Half Moon Pond will never be the same without our dear friend Rich (Gilly-our Sheriff), and his golf cart sound parading the Boulevard. Occasionally we caught sightings of Sheri riding shot gun with him, with her stylish flower decorating her hair, as they traveled the pond into the sunset. Thanks for all of the precious memories and good times Gilly, we will always smile when sharing our stories of you and grateful for the trails you left on Half Moon Pond. We will miss you, and will look forward to when we meet again. Cheers to you Gilly, on the Boulevard! Cate and Gail

Rich, you will be terribly missed as a neighbor and a friend. The years that we were privileged to be your next door neighbor flew by and I still cannot believe that I will never see you on this earth again. I feel horrible that I never got to say good-bye to you Rich, but I believe that you knew of my intentions anyways. You and your beautiful wife were the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for. You were always available to help if help was needed. You always had the right tool, advice or whatever was needed from a neighbor. We will miss your kind smile and the usual complaints neighbors can share with each other. Yes we saw you reading your favorite books and watching your favorite TV shows and movies in your favorite place: your garage. You were always outdoors doing something. There is too much to mention when it comes to all the things we will miss about you, but believe me: you will be missed!!! The feeling of loss started the moment we learned of your illness. I could go on and on about what we will miss the most about you, but you and I both know what they are. We will do our best to look after your lovely wife and extend our help when and if it is needed. I know you would do the same for us. I will conclude by saying once again that we were the lucky ones that became your next door neighbor and the opportunity of knowing you and your wife. It is a privilege that we will never forget. May God bless you. You will never leave our thoughts and prayers.

With much love,
Ken and Lynn Moore
