I was a 21 yr old violinist music student from Grinnell, IA (studying at Indiana University) when I got to stay with Ron during the summer of 1978. This was for a music camp I was part of connected with Cabrillo College. He and his friend Jerry often cooked for me, I got to see him work on his harpsichords, Lou Harrison stopped over once for dinner, it was all amazing. The only thing I regret was not thanking him enough for his great hospitality. I learned that San Francisco-made sourdough muffins with English marmalade is the best thing ever, but I wasn't sure about the calamari. I am very sad to hear of his passing.

It is hard to believe it has been 5 years. I have such great memories growing up with Ron and my Aunt Ruth and Uncle Carl. Every Holiday together , heading to the beach (Rio Del Mar was our favorite.) Rest in peace dear cousin. Cousin Janice.

I was a friend of Ron for many years, from our first meeting at UCB where he was in architecture school. I resumed our friendship when I moved to Santa Cruz in the 70's. He introduced me to the Cabrillo Music Festival and we both enjoyed housing and partying with the musicians. He was a great influence in my musical upbringing - a gift
I still cherish.

Ron was my dear cousin and as growing up and spending great times at Aptos with our Aunt Ruth , Uncle Carl and Ron.
I will miss our phone conversations, his great sense of humor and sending post cards from their travels.
If anyone received a card from Ron and Hugo it was written backwards and you had to look in the mirror to read.
Ron I love you .
Hugo , thank you for taking such good care of Ron.
Love , Cousin Jan

I will forever cherish the childhood memories of Santa Cruz and the summers spent with Ronnie and his parents. As each day ended by the fireside, we were mesmerized by Ron's early version of classical piano. This would be only the beginning for Ron; little did we realize the scope of his talents, and the accomplishments yet to unfold. I was proud to be his cousin on many levels...the world has lost an extraordinary human being. His, was truly a life to be recognized and celebrated. Rest in Peace, Cousin Glen Meyer

Ron Haas - a true self-taught "Renaissance Man", a steadfast friend, the ultimate host, a generous and caring soul, and an independent spirit. We'll always have our memories of the themed dinner parties that brought so many people together in a warm and inviting setting and all the holidays spent at Ron's, especially the St. Patrick's Day dinners. Our hearts go out to you, Hugo, as you deal with the loss of an exceptional man. Jim and Tony
