Sally Goode Obituary

GOODE, SALLY ANDREW Sally Andrew Goode, much beloved mother, friend, and neighbor, died peacefully and respectfully on October 3, 2006 in hospice care after her six year battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her son, James Andrew Goode and his fiance, Jennifer Roy, of San Diego, CA; her son Scott David Goode of Atlanta, GA; mother Monica Andrew of Wing, Rutland, England; and sister Janet Berridge and her husband, Phillip Berridge, of Oakham, Rutland, England. Sally was born March 14, 1941 in Oakham, England. Raised on a rural country farm, she learned at a young age the value of life, the reality of death, the solemnity of winter, the beauty of spring, and the bounty of food. She attended the Stamford School in Lincolnshire and worked weekends and summers on the farm. At nineteen Sally left England and traveled across the United States as an au pair. While living in Los Angeles, California, she met a UCLA graduate student, James Goode, whom she would later marry, and took a job as a dental assistant in a small office where she learned her craft of 42 years. In 1971, she moved to San Diego, California with her husband and first son. Shortly thereafter her second son was born and the family settled into a canyon rim home. She was hired at a small dental office in North Park from which she recently retired a 35 year veteran. Never short of a good joke and an open ear, Sally became a much beloved member and friend of the office staff and by all who knew her. Family, friends, neighbors, and patients have always hailed Sally as a fun- loving, enthusiastic woman who embodied the spirit of England. Sally's talents and interests ranged from painting and drawing, to gardening, cooking, knitting, singing, and laughing. She will best be remembered for the tenacity and courageous manner with which she battled cancer, a disease which never conquered her spirit even though it ultimately conquered her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and were touched by her vivacity and lovely smile. Memorial services were held on Friday, October 20th at the Salli Lynn Chapel in the Greenwood Memorial Park and were followed a celebration of her life at the Limbo Fine Arts Gallery. Donations may be made to the San Diego Hospice Foundation (866-688-1600) or the American Cancer Society (800-ACS-2345). Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

What a blessing I have had in my life--her name is Sally. A true joy & delight to have known--I feel honored to be her friend. Sally taught me alot--mostly FUN!!! The most important lifes lesson, I will ALWAYS try to heed in Sallys memory, is to forget all about the little things--live for the moment!! All the pictures at the celebration really brought that home for me--Sally lived!! Never do I expect to meet a kinder person with a bigger, giving heart! Like Marcus said in his 'memory' of her on Friday, 'this world would be a better place if there were more people like Sally'!! I miss her terribly & I thank you for welcoming me into your family!

All My Love,
Marian

Dear Jim,Jen,and Scott,
First I want to tell you that the service was very beautiful and moving. The celebration of your mom's life was the great party that she wanted. I learned so much about Sally that night that I was unaware of even though I worked with her for two years. We can't choose how we are going to die or when but we can choose how we are going to live. Sally's warm nature and jokes touched all the patients.
She is greatly missed by our office.
