Charles Johnson Obituary
Charles Everett Johnson
February 5, 1941 - June 8, 2022
Fairfield, Ohio - Charles Everett Johnson (Chuck), son of Shirley (Bayne) and Everett E Johnson (both deceased) passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022, due to an extended illness in Fairfield, Ohio.
Chuck, 81, was born in San Luis Obispo, California, in February 1941, where he spent his early years. (To many, Chuck was known as Poor Boy, which was written on his 1956 Chevy, and seen cruising up and down the streets of San Luis Obispo on Thursday nights with his buddies.). Chuck was a graduate from San Luis Obispo High School in 1958. He then went to California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, California, where he earned two Bachelor of Science Degrees in Business and Math, in 1964. Upon completion of his college, he entered the Officers Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia where he received a Second Lieutenant Commission in the U. S. Army. He was then assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington, where he was promoted to First Lieutenant as a Finance Officer until 1967. Upon release from the U. S. Army, Chuck went to the University of Iowa where he earned a Masters Degree in Math.
After graduate school, Chuck began his long career working for the Ohio National Finance Services as an Actuary in Cincinnati, Ohio, until he retired. It was there where he worked that he met his wife, Maryjo (Thompson) Johnson. They were married for 49 years until her passing in 2019.
Chuck has always had a love for sports, and in his early years, he use to play baseball for the Indians, a local baseball team, in San Luis Obispo. And, all Chucks' life, he has had a love for education and until a few years ago, he was developing and sending out packets of Math programs to High Schools around the country, to encourage the students in their Math studies. Every year, Chuck would plant a garden and grow the most beautiful sunflowers, this always gave him so much pleasure. But probably, what gave him the most pleasure was taking his whole family out for a wonderful dinner, he loved that the most and always looked forward to it.
Chuck is survived by all four of his children: son, Noel (Denise) Johnson, of Fairfield, Ohio, daughters, Laura (Ernie) Byrd, of Fairfield, Ohio, and Curry (Jim) Smith, of Cary, North Carolina, and son, Seth Johnson, of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also survived by six beautiful grandchildren: Avery Smith, Mason, Henry, Charlotte, Zoey, and Willow Johnson.
Chuck is also survived by his sister, Janice Jonsin and brother-in-law, Brig. Gen. Larry H. Della Bitta (ret), of San Luis Obispo, California.
Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Roger B. Johnson, and his nephew, Jonn Jonsin.
In closing, what I think was best said by Laura Byrd about her love for her father was . . . "God gained a saint this past week. . . He was a special man that I know has touched many lives and he enjoyed all he ever did in life. So I'd say that he lived a pretty good life."
Chuck was loved so deeply and will be missed by his entire family and friends.
He will especially be missed by his buddy, his dog, Sarah.
