David Hendrickson Obituary

David Hendrickson
April 18, 1955 - March 20, 2023
Morro Bay, California - On March 20, 2023 Dave was welcomed home into heaven after a 5 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was cared for at home for the last month and peacefully went to be with the Lord.
Dave enjoyed a life full of love and caring for others. He was active in numerous organization from coaching youth basketball, helping with Awana cubbies, Morro Bay 4-H, coed and over 50 softball, singing with the praise team at Baywood Park Community Church. He loved to help out at any bbq big or small. He could be found working a bbq pit for family, friends and church get-togethers. He was also the go to guy for hot dog roasts and pancake breakfasts. He loved spending time in the mountains and along with a group of friends he would go on a fishing trip every summer.
Dave was born in Los Angeles but considered Morro Bay his real "hometown". He lived in and around Morro Bay for 49 years, 37 of those years on a ranch outside of Morro Bay. He worked for the State of California for 29 years and retired in 2006 so he would only be working one job. He along with his family became avocado farmers in 1998. He learned by doing and by asking questions whenever he needed advice on growing avocado trees. He also would share what he learned with anyone that wanted information on growing avocados.
A self-taught welder he created many gifts for family and friends, often using horseshoes. In the last few years be built his own forge to fabricate even more metal creations. He also used those skills in maintaining different areas of the ranch.
He loved all his family and with his wife Kathy started what became a yearly tradition. The Hendrickson family bbq began in San Luis Obispo and continued in Morro Bay. This tradition celebrated its 40th in 2022.
He was always active in the various churches he attended. He loved singing and could always be counted on to be part of a choir or praise team.
Dave is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathy, his son Eric, his mother Marilyn, his sister Carolyn and her husband John, numerous cousins and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Harry in 1992 and his daughter Sharon in 2007.
A memorial service will be held on April 29th starting at 11:00 am at Baywood Park Community Church, 1436 11th St. Los Osos. A lunch reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Baywood Park Community Church or Wilshire Hospice.

We worked together at CMC, he was always a pleasure to work with, he was kind and respectful to everyone. I haven´t seen Dave for many years but I will never forget him.

What can be said for such a kind man as David. Everytime we would see him over the years, he was always humble and shared our same love for ranching. God bless his family. He will be missed.
