Dorothy Fryer Obituary

Dorothy Alexander Fryer RN Dorothy Alexander Fryer, 100, died peacefully in her sleep July 20, 2017, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Dorothy "Dottie" was born March 25, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA. She earned her nursing degree at Women's Medical College in Philadelphia in 1939. She married Harry Fryer, MD in 1942, and in 1954 they moved with four of their five children to San Luis Obispo. When not busy raising her children, Dottie was involved in many civic organizations including the Children's Home Society, Women's Medical Auxiliary, American Field Service, San Luis Obispo Art Association, Arabian Horse Association, and The Monday Club. Dorothy was an accomplished artist. She studied art at Cal Poly and traveled China and Europe. Her pen name was LOLIS for "Little Old Lady in Sneakers." She loved to travel and a popular nickname for her among family members was "Have Bags" for Have Bags Will Travel. Dorothy was the sweetest, most loving, fun, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend anyone could imagine. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Fryer, MD; and her five siblings. She is survived by five children including: Kenneth Fryer, MD of San Luis Obispo; Andrew Fryer, MD of Fort Worth, TX; Jane Wilson of Creston; Jill Patterson of Centennial, CO; and Scott Fryer of Marathon, FL; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. The family held a private service and no public service is planned. Kenny, Andy, Jane, Jill, and Scott;
Sorry to see your mother passed. She must have had a wonderful life. Look at what great kids she raised...along with Doc. They were a fine team. Remember the good times and those things that bring a smile to your faces. Condolences.

I was an AFS exchange student in the Fryer home in 67/68 and have wonderful memories of my American family in San Luis Obispo. My sincere condolences with the passing of your mother.

I have many happy memories of Dottie Fryer while gruowing up in SLO, visiting in their home to see my friend Jill Fryer Patterson. Dottie was a delightful person! One memory I have is when her little car had a "vapor lock" and was stranded on a hill coming back from Camp Natoma. Dottie was a calm & comforting person & will always hold a place in my heart. Condolences for the loss of your wonderful mother. Karen Clogston Arrona, San Luis Obispo.

Dr. Fryer was the pediatrician for my 6 children. I loved him so much because of his common sense answers to my questions and problems. Because of his suggestion we bought a movie camera way back in 1956 and have wonderful pictures of first steps, first birthdays and first black eyes. He was truly a gift from Heaven. He told me so often that he got advice from his wife because she was with the children than he was. To live such a long life is another gift from heaven. Rest in peace.

Dottie was such a wonderful friend of my mother. They all were a part of the greatest generation. They will be missed. They just don't make them like Dottie anymore.
