Robert Miller Obituary

Bob Miller, 75, resident of San Luis Obispo for over fifty 50 years and owner of Miller''s Motorcycles, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012. He was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., and later moved to Menlo Park, Calif., where he graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School. In the late 1950s, Bob relocated to San Luis Obispo and later opened his own motorcycle business. Besides motorcycle repair, Miller''s Motorcycles sold Bultaco and Montesa motorcycles and then Vespa, Ducati and Moto Guzzi during the gas shortages of the 1980s. Bob''s passion was motorcycle trials, which eventually led him to be a distributor for Fantic Trials bikes until the close of his shop in 2001, when he retired. Bob was a proud supporter of anyone who wanted to learn about trials and motorcycles. He donated his time to the Poly Penguins, a Cal Poly motorcycle club, was a member of Sacramento PITS and a lifetime member of the American Motorcyclist Association. Bob will certainly be missed by those he supported in the motorcycle community, not only in the San Luis Obispo County area, but also in the rest of the United States, Europe and Australia. The Miller Family is extremely grateful to the staff of The Village at Sydney Creek, who were instrumental in the care and support to Bob and his family. Bob is survived by his daughter, Roma Miller; son, Brett "Bim" Miller, both natives of San Luis Obispo; daughter-in-law, Laura Miller; grandson, Ian Miller; and sister, Marilyn Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Wilma J. Miller. The Central Coast Motorcycle Association will honor Bob at a barbeque at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at the Santa Margarita Community Center, 9602 Murphy St. in Atascadero. Friends are invited. For further information on the event, contact Tim Pilg at [email protected]. Memorial donations may be made to the Central California Alzheimer''s Association, https://act.alz.org/site/Donation; or 1528 Chapala St., Ste. 204, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. Bob will be missed by so many! His honest way of life is rare in today's world. He is the reason I rode trials!

Dear Roma and Bim, I was so sorry to read of your father's passing in today's paper. I had no idea that you had also lost your mom. I worked with her at French Hospital many years ago and knew both of you when you were small children. My deepest sympathy goes to you and your family.
